“Don’t tell mommy”

“We can’t tell mommy you had that snack”

“Better not let mommy see that”

“Shh, it’s a secret! Don’t tell daddy”

These comments will instantly put you on the list of never leaving my kid alone with you.

It seems harmless to utter this remark when the child wants a candy, Whats really happening is the undermining of the parents authority in the child’s head.

The child begins to think, “Oo I can keep secrets from mommy?”

AND it’s setting them up for unsafe situations. A child and an adult do not keep secrets from that child’s parent.

It’s creepy. Most times it’s not meant to be. Unfortunately though, the reality is that if there is ever an instance when an adult is making this statement and it IS to be creepy, that child needs to know it’s wrong and not think it’s a funny game because they’ve heard it before in regards to snacks or tv time or whatever weird things you want kids not to tell their parents???
