Don’t Be Too Available. Even Gold Loses Value When It’s Left in the Open.
You can be the best at what you do. You can teach with your soul. You can pour every drop of passion into your students…
But if you make yourself too common — too available — you’ll soon be treated like air: useful but invisible.
I once taught in a school where an English teacher — brilliant, dedicated, reliable — taught every class across all levels.
He came early. Stayed late. Helped everyone. Yet he was paid ₦40,000 monthly.
Meanwhile, another teacher taught the same subject, came only twice a week, spent barely two hours per visit… and got ₦120,000.
Was he smarter?
No.
Was he better?
Not at all.
He simply packaged himself.
It’s painful to admit — but in today’s world, value is not just about what you carry inside… it’s about how you present it.
Even if Cristiano Ronaldo came to play football every day with a random local team in Nigeria, in a few months, people would stop screaming.
The wonder would fade.
He’d become normal.
Because people are wired to undervalue what they see too often and get too easily.
So dear teacher, professional, or creative:
Don’t become common.
That doesn’t mean you should keep changing jobs like shirts.
It means you must upgrade.
Package yourself.
Train. Learn. Improve. Grow.
Make your absence felt.
Let your presence be valuable.
Because when you carry worth but lack packaging, you will always be underpaid and undervalued.
