Dr. Maria Montessori emphasizes the need to raise system thinkers or those who discover for themselves the details of a concept that they are learning.

When a teacher establishes relationships across differing concepts, children then discover for themselves the intricacies of these relationships.

Still on the matter of the 8 reasons to love Montessori!

Reason no.2: Respect for the Individual child.
Respect in Montessori education is not merely a concept but a fundamental practice woven into the fabric of the learning environment. Teachers, referred to as facilitators “Directress”, create spaces where children are encouraged to explore their interests at their own pace. This approach instills instils a sense of independence, allowing them to make choices and learn through hands-on experiences.

In the Montessori classroom, the adult's role is that of a Directress, observing and guiding rather than dictating. This approach empowers the child to take ownership of their education, fostering a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom walls. The emphasis on respect for the child's individuality also extends to the materials used in the Montessori environment, carefully designed to cater to various learning styles and interests.

Today, we are looking at how to present a lesson in Montessori. So here are tips that can be helpful as a practitioner!

1) When showing a material for the first time, invite your child, show them where to find the material and tell them the name. Ex "Today I would like to show you the colour tablets. They are here on the shelf."

2) Give a quick intro and connect to previous knowledge. The younger the child, the shorter the intro. For example, "we've been learning about colors, I'd like to show you even more today."

3) It's recommended to have a floor or table mat to define the workspace. If you don't have a mat, ensure your space is
cleared, and there are no other distractions.

4) Have the child sit on the side of your non-dominant hand. So, if you are right- handed, your child should be on your left side. This is so you don't block the view of the work when you are moving your arm.

5) When you talk, don't move and when you move don't talk. Quiet actions.

6) With your quiet actions and, later, openness to a few words, demonstrate how to properly carry the material, set it out, and clean it up.

7) When finished, show the child where it belongs and
encourage them to use it again when they wish.

It's as easy 123-7 steps!

Interested in online study of Montessori Early Years & Education? This course is designed just for you.
It offers a flexible pathway of study for very busy to little time to spare persons who want to take a course of study of the Montessori Pedagogy for the Early Years (0-6).

This certificate course combines 1 part self paced study fully online of the Theoretical Studies of Montessori Philosophy of Child Development, Montessori Curriculum and Methodology for 6 months wholly online via a virtual learning platform, then accelerates to in person study, every Saturday for 2 months (Up to 10 Saturdays in total) in attendance of practical Montessori apparatus workshop to study Classroom Methodology, Curriculum instruction, Apparatus application and demonstration.

This course will span a total of 8 months this year for the full programme.

This course is comprehensive and does not require prior studies in the field of education or child care. However, because it is a higher learning course, experience studying at tertiary level can be very beneficial in your preparation for studying this accelerated level course. Notwithstanding, albeit our preference for a first degree educational qualification, it is not a requirement. A minimum of SHS is still accepted. What we require is a commitment to take a short course of study and see it through, a dedication to reading extensively, and some research, and finally fluency in English language and verbal expression both written and spoken.

This course is self led and self paced truly. There are no deadlines for assignments, and your coursework will span no more than 4 major assignments in the theory study over the 6 months online. This approach of study is Montessori inspired as applied to adult learning.

We are an independent training programme and therefore are an independent awarding course.

This course is for busy executives, professionals, business owners and parents who want to study Montessori in order to take up a career in the field no matter if they want to start/operate a nursery or run/manage one, setup and run a childcare, a child service provision (book club, child events, after school club, etc

Just like in the highlights we gave days ago for why you should love Montessori our no. 1 Reason why you absolutely should, is that, it is CHILD-CENTERED!

When you enter most Montessori classrooms, it is impossible to even see the teacher's space.
It is not a "top down"environment, where you find a teacher "heading" the class, with a looming, big adult size Desk in the corner or center marking her authority as leader with her presence.

It is a space for all, more so, most importantly, the children. Dr. Montessori teaches the adult/teacher trainees that we must be lowly in spirit and serve the child. This translates ridding self of egos, coming down to the child's level both literally and metaphorically, and allow him to lead. We must "follow the child." What does this mean to you?

The other things that make it child-centred include:
💖individualized education - children work at their level
💖choice and independence
💖respect for the child
💖emphasis on social and emotional development
💖The prepared environment.
💖hands-on materials
Stay with us in the coming weeks to learn more about the other reasons to love Montessori and to learn from our glossary of terms and their meanings such as, "fo"follow the child."llow the child."

If you are a Montessori classroom practitioner or a student of the Pedagogy, then we would like to hear from you why you love Montessori!
