We are excited to be back on campus learning together! After a couple of extra months making sure our students were ready for a new school year, we have returned to class as usual. It’s hard to believe, but our oldest students who started as first graders are now in grade 6. We can’t wait to see what this year holds!

Each brick of our school building is made by hand. It is very labor intensive as our co founder learned when we first began to build our first classroom block in 2015. We now have enough sand and cement to make enough bricks for our Jr High!

Just as our schools in the US have all been affected by Covid 19, schools in Ghana are no different. Just last week we were able to resume our morning assembly after requiring social distancing for 5 months. Now, masks are optional, and we are limiting the number of classes out at one time. We are happy to be back to close to normal.

It’s time to build! Our senior students will be entering 7th grade next school year, which means we need to begin construction on our Junior High. Re locating the electrical wires from our land is now completed, and we are ready to go!

So great to see our students back in the classroom! Small group learning is one of the hallmarks at Semanhyia, and you can see it is going very well.

Wonderful news to share! As of Wednesday, January 20th, our kids are back in school. Of course, there are new protocols in place to protect from Covid 19, but we are back to the business of educating the children of Ghana. How great to see these lovely faces back on campus.

Happy ! What a crazy year it has been. We have all been impacted, including Semanhyiya American School. Ghana’s President closed all schools in March, and we are hoping to be back on campus in January. We are so grateful to all of our teachers who have provided continuous learning for our students. Every donation we receive today will be matched up to $10,000. Our students are ready to get back to school!! https://www.godfredsfoundation.org/donate

We may not have our SAS family to welcome us to school every morning, but we are all busy learning and can’t wait to be together again soon.

We have had many volunteers over the past 5 years, and we appreciate all they have brought to our school and community. Today we must recognize Angela D'Ambrosio, who has been in Senase since November 2019. Not only was she a leader and inspiration during our school year, but after Covid closed our schools she continued to teach our kids through on air learning on the radio and in countless other ways. We will all miss her dearly, and hope she will return soon.

We are so thankful to our headmaster, teachers, and everyone who has kept learning front and center during this difficult time. Between our on air learning, (radio lessons), and Whattsapp lessons, our students are challenged every day. We can’t wait till we can welcome them back to school.

These past couple of months have been difficult to say the least. Navigating in this “new normal “ has brought many challenges, but we are so happy to tell you that Semanhyiya American School is leading the way in bringing education to our students as well as our surrounding communities. Currently, our Nursery is being transformed into a library to support learning in all surrounding villages and the city of Berekum. A huge thank you to Arthur Eric for his leadership in this effort!
