Sport as a bridge for international engagement 🌍🏉

The University of Ghana was pleased to welcome the Cambridge University Rugby League Football Club as part of their visit to Ghana, culminating in a landmark international fixture against the University of Ghana Rugby League Football Club.

Beyond the competition, the visit created an opportunity for meaningful cultural exchange, friendship, and collaboration through sport.

The International Programmes Office remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen the University’s international outlook and create opportunities for engagement across diverse fields, including sports.

Closing out our June in Review...

The International Programmes Office welcomed Scholars from the European University Institute and the University of Hradec Kralové under the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Programme, reaffirming the University of Ghana’s commitment to international cooperation through academic and professional exchange.

The programme provided an opportunity for meaningful engagement between the visiting participants and members of the University community, fostering dialogue, sharing institutional best practices, and strengthening relationships that support teaching, research, and administrative collaboration.

The International Programmes Office welcomed a number of distinguished scholars and international visitors during June, reflecting the University’s continued commitment to fostering global academic engagement and cross-cultural exchange.

Among them were Daniela Ruberti of the University of Campania, who visited the International Programmes Office during her academic engagement at the University of Ghana; Prof. Rauscher of the University of South Florida, whose visit provided an opportunity to strengthen academic connections and explore areas of shared interest; and Sean Lee, a BECHS Africa Fellow, whose engagement highlighted the value of international fellowship programmes in promoting knowledge exchange and collaborative learning.

Collectively, these visits underscore the University of Ghana’s dedication to creating an environment where international scholars, researchers, and fellows can connect, collaborate, and contribute to the University’s global outlook.

The International Programmes Office had the honour of welcoming a high-level delegation from James Madison University during a visit to the University of Ghana.

Following discussions with the Dean of the International Programmes Office and a tour of the International House, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor. The visit served to reaffirm the longstanding relationship between the two institutions while exploring new opportunities for collaboration in teaching, research, student mobility, and global engagement.

The engagement reflects the shared commitment of both universities to advancing impactful international partnerships that create meaningful opportunities for students, faculty, and the broader academic community.

The International Programmes Office welcomed a delegation from ESATIC Côte d’Ivoire to the University of Ghana as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional collaboration and academic exchange within West Africa.

The visit provided an opportunity to explore areas of mutual interest while reaffirming the importance of building stronger relationships among neighbouring institutions. As universities across the region work towards shared development goals, such engagements demonstrate that linguistic differences need not be barriers to meaningful collaboration, but opportunities for greater cultural understanding and knowledge exchange.

Continuing our May 2026 Highlights...

The International Programmes Office welcomed a new cohort of eight interns from Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada, and a new set of visiting international students for the second semester.

An orientation session was organized to introduce the students to the University of Ghana, Ghanaian culture and traditions, security tips and key aspects of their internship and student experience. The interns also had the opportunity to interact with some representatives from their respective internship sites and some local students.
