As part of commitment to assist the Government of Ghana (GOG) in its pursuits of achieving poverty reduction through agricultural investment and growth, USAID/Ghana developed the Feed the Future Agriculture Policy Support Project (APSP), a five-year program aimed at increasing the capacity of the GOG, the private sector and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) for policy formation, implementation, re
search and advocacy. The APSP seeks to contribute to the agricultural policy process by ensuring that policy-making responds to empirical evidence through research, and that both the public and private sectors engage in fruitful and ongoing discussions of identifying and implementing these policies. This is be achieved through three components of the APSP implementation framework:
- Policy Formation and Implementation,
- Policy Research, and
- Policy Advocacy. Reform on any level often requires educating the public, and particularly those stakeholders involved in the process of policy development, about the importance of reforms, i.e. what they are, whom will they affect, what is the expected outcome of such reforms, and why are reforms necessary.
