“Our sixth graders brought “The Wiz” to life on stage. Based on the 1978 adaptation of Frank L. Baum’s timeless classic “The Wizard of Oz”. Our student led performance was a captivating performance where our sixth graders showcased their acting talents and creativity, from the vibrant characters to the confident delivery leaving the audience entertained and proud.
It was more than just a stage performance for our parents, but a proud moment to witness their children grow in confidence, teamwork, creativity, and self expression right before their eyes.
Moments like these reflect the nurturing, supportive, and talent driven environment that makes AIS a place where every child is encouraged to shine.

“One day I was sitting at home in England with my parents when I got a phone call. The first thing they asked me was: ‘How would you like to come to Ghana?’”
“At first I was shocked. But the more I learned about the school, the mission, the people here, the more I felt pulled toward it. And once I arrived, I fell in love with the place.”
“When I first came, there was a lot to adjust to. I’m British, so there were all these cultural differences, not just between England and Ghana, but between all the different communities in the school. There are Korean students here, Chinese students, Nigerians, South Africans, people from all over the world. I had to learn how to meet people in the middle without sounding too British all the time.”
“I teach Grade 8 Algebra and AP Computer Science, and honestly, my favorite part of the day is class time. Especially when students suddenly make a connection they didn’t see before.”
“One time I taught sequences through music rhythms. Normally students are not always excited about math, but that day they really connected with it because it felt real to them. That’s one of my favorite things about teaching, finding that different way in that suddenly makes something click.”
“I actually studied aerospace engineering before becoming a teacher. A lot of people are surprised by that, but engineering taught me how to solve problems, and that’s really what teaching is too. You’re constantly looking at problems and figuring out different ways to approach them.”
“I think being here has also strengthened my faith. I was raised Christian, but during university there were times I drifted a bit. Being part of this community brought me back to that foundation.”
“And honestly, one of the smallest things has become one of the most important parts of my day. Just walking through the corridors every morning and greeting people. Saying good morning to students. Letting them know you see them.”
“Even if somebody is having a bad morning, if we’re all together, then it can still become a good day.”

“When I came to AIS in 2007, there were only about 46 students and maybe eight teachers. We were very small then. I honestly thought I would only stay for a short while. I’m Ghanaian, but I had been living in South Africa because of my husband’s Presbyterian Church exchange programme, and my plan was to eventually return to a Presbyterian school.”
“But something about this place kept me here. The Christian faith felt genuine. We were few, but we were close.”
“The early years were not always easy. Some parents openly said they wanted an American teacher instead. I remember asking once: ‘Is 1 + 1 written differently in America?’ Science is science everywhere.”
“There were moments I felt judged before people even knew me. Internally, I would become very angry, but I kept reminding myself that being a Christian is not only about what you say when life is easy. It’s also about how you respond when people are unfair to you.”
“Eventually, some of those same people came back to apologise.”
“And now when I look around the school, sometimes I can hardly believe how much has changed. We have IB, AP, science fairs, all these amazing opportunities for students. Back then we were simply trying to build something.”
“Now our challenge is to keep growing sustainably.”
“I think after all these years, I understand people better. You learn patience. You learn grace. And you learn that growth takes time.”
