AFRICA UNITES FOR A RESPONSIBLE AI FUTURE
African leaders, policymakers, tech experts, and civil society groups, at a two-day meeting held on April 3–4, 2025, in Kigali, Rwanda, adopted the groundbreaking Africa Declaration on Artificial Intelligence.
This milestone document outlines a bold vision for using AI to drive innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development across the continent.
The Declaration focuses on building homegrown AI talent, strengthening ethical data governance, expanding access to AI infrastructure, and ensuring that AI technologies respect African values, cultures, and human rights.
It also calls for the creation of an African AI Scientific Panel and an annual African AI Forum to monitor progress and share best practices.
With this united step forward, Africa is positioning itself not just as a participant, but as a global leader in shaping a future where AI serves humanity responsibly and inclusively.

Accra Met Vice President Urges Widows to Stay Strong and Pursue Their Goals
Vice President of Accra Metropolitan University(Accra Met), Prof. Lilian-Rita Akudolu, has encouraged widows in Nungua to remain courageous, steadfast, and focused on their aspirations despite the challenges they face.
Speaking at the International Women’s Day Celebration organised by the Krowor Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Prof. Akudolu, who deputised for the university’s president, Prof. Mrs. Goski Alabi, shared her personal experience as a widow. She acknowledged the difficulties of widowhood but urged the women to maintain their happiness and continue striving for success.
“When I lost my husband, it was very difficult for me and the children. But because I had faith in God, He became our provider,” she said, encouraging the widows to put their trust in the Almighty.
“If you allow God to be your husband, He will guide you through all situations, regardless of the difficulties,” she added.
The event was under theme ‘Accelerate Action: Empowering Widows for a Brighter Future.’
Madam Deborah Borkwe, President of the Firm Foundation Widows Association (FFWA), emphasized the need to support girls’ education to enable them to pursue careers in male-dominated fields such as aviation, engineering, and skilled trades.
Mr. Alexander Tetteh, Social Welfare Officer for the Krowor Municipal Assembly, assured the widows of his unwavering support.
Prof. Akudolu was accompanied by a team from Accra Metropolitan University, including Madam Veronica Dorsey, Marketing Manager; Mr. Lawrence Alantee, Multimedia Officer; and Jesse Martey Sackey, Administrative Officer.

ACCRA METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY & ACDE JOIN EU-FUNDED NELS PROJECT TO EMPOWER STUDENT LEADERS
Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met) and the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) have joined a prestigious €500,000 EU-funded initiative—Next Level Skills for Student Leaders (NELS)!
Over the next three years, 2,500 student leaders across Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe will gain critical skills in leadership, digital engagement, and civic participation. With training in future challenges, next-level leadership, and student organizing, NELS is set to transform student leadership in higher education!
At the Brussels kick-off meeting (March 12-15, 2025), Ghana was well represented by experts from Accra Met, University of Cape Coast (UCC), and ACDE.
With top universities and student organizations from across Africa and Europe on board, this initiative is a game-changer!

Accra Metropolitan University Appoints Prof. Lilian-Rita Akudolu as New Vice President
The Accra Metropolitan University (Accra MET) is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Lilian-Rita Akudolu as its new Vice President (Pro-Vice Chancellor). With a distinguished career in higher education, leadership, and academic development, Prof. Akudolu brings a wealth of expertise that aligns with the university’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
In her new role, Prof. Akudolu will collaborate closely with the President and the Board of Directors to advance Accra MET’s strategic vision. She will focus on fostering academic excellence, enhancing student success, and supporting faculty development, while further elevating the university’s reputation both nationally and internationally.
