I had the opportunity to set the records straight on the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) contract with Tata Consultancy Services. In simple terms, I am cleaning up an NPP mess. The NPP committed the nation to a binding contract on 4th November 2024. Had I failed to execute it, Ghana would have faced a costly judgment debt. They also failed to seek parliamentary approval for the contract — something we have now corrected by submitting it to Parliament. They granted tax exemptions to the contractor; we have renegotiated the terms of the contract and saved the nation about 10 million dollars. It is important to note that this same NPP government agreed with the IMF to make the ITAS contract a structural benchmark to be executed before the end of 2024. The IMF has now made it a prior action for us to complete before its Board meets for the next programme review. That is why we are cleaning up the mess, fixing what must be fixed, and moving forward responsibly.
