Strengthening Atlantic Cooperation: GoGMI at 2025
We were honoured to have Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson, Advisory Board Chairman, and Commodore James Osei Kontoh, Advisory Board Member of the Gulf of Guinea Maritime Institute, represent the Institute at the 14th edition of the Atlantic Dialogues Conference.
This flagship forum, organised by the Policy Centre for the New South (PCNS) under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is taking place from 11–13 December 2025 at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) campus in Rabat, Morocco.
Their participation reinforces GOGMI’s to advancing strategic dialogue, regional , and thought on peace, , and across the Atlantic space.

The Gulf of Guinea Maritime Institute (GoGMI), led by Vice Admiral Issah Yakubu (Rtd), delivered an insightful presentation on Introduction to Maritime Governance at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) Course 47 - Maritime Sector Governance Course.
The session highlighted the importance of maritime governance to Ghana’s security and economic prosperity, especially as a coastal state with a 560 km shoreline. Participants were taken through core principles of maritime governance, international legal frameworks such as UNCLOS, and the roles of national and regional institutions in ensuring safety, security, and environmental protection at sea.
The presentation also explored contemporary maritime challenges and the future of governance within the evolving global maritime landscape.
GoGMI remains committed to strengthening knowledge, collaboration, and capacity-building across the Gulf of Guinea region.

Today, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of our chief fishermen, fishmongers, and coastal communities whose stewardship keeps our fisheries alive. As we work toward a resilient and sustainable blue economy, their roles as frontline guardians remain essential.
The Gulf of Guinea Maritime Institute joins the global community in advocating for responsible fishing practices, community-led management, and lasting partnerships that protect our marine resources for generations to come.
