It is a sign that the Spirit of God is departed from men, if, like Saul, they are peevish, envious, suspicious, and ill-natured. Compare David, with his harp in his hand, aiming to serve Saul, and Saul, with his javelin in his hand, aiming to slay David; and observe the sweetness and usefulness of God's persecuted people, and the barbarity of their persecutors. But David's safety must be ascribed to God's providence.

True Christianity is not defined on the basis of external moralism, religious traditionalism, or partisan politics, but on the basis of a personal love for Jesus Christ and a desire to follow Him no matter the cost.

Christian ethic is the affirmation and application of moral instructions found in the Bible. But it does not do so in an attempt to legalistically earn salvation. Rather, having received salvation as the free gift of God through faith in Christ, it readily obeys out of a heart of love.
