Background of the Association Boulevard Francophone French Inter-Schools Quiz Competition
The Association Boulevard Francophone French Inter-Schools Quiz Competition was initiated with the aim of promoting the learning and use of the French language among students in Ghana.
This initiative began during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period when most television and radio programs were broadcast only in English and local languages. I observed that foreigners and French-speaking residents in Ghana were left out of such media programs, which inspired me to create a platform that would bridge this communication gap.
As a result, I started a radio program titled “Boulevard Francophone” on Kingdom Plus FM 103.9 at East Legon. One of the key segments of the show, called “Apprenons le Français” (“Let’s Learn French”), became very popular and sparked the idea to extend the initiative into schools.
In 2022, we launched the first edition of the French Inter-Schools Quiz Competition, which featured six basic schools in East Legon and its surrounding areas. The program captured the interest of both students and audiences, significantly enhancing enthusiasm and performance in French language studies.
Since then, Association Boulevard Francophone (ABF) has taken full responsibility for organizing and sustaining this important educational initiative. Despite our continuous efforts, we have not received any sponsorship or institutional support over the years. Nevertheless, through dedication and passion, we have successfully organized five consecutive editions.
We acknowledge the challenges that come with every good initiative, but we remain committed to nurturing this platform that encourages students to appreciate and master the French language — a key tool for communication, cultural exchange, and national development.
