*THE PRICE OF FREEDOM – GHANA AT 69*
A country our forefathers fought to see,
A nation they dreamed would forever be free.
With sweat on their brows and hope in their eyes,
They paid the price of freedom with sacrifice.
Some shed their blood upon this land,
Some raised the flag with trembling hands.
They stood for justice, truth, and right,
Believing Ghana would shine so bright.
But tell me, youth of today,
As the drums of independence play—
How are we guarding what they gave?
Are we honouring the path they paved?
A country they selflessly sacrificed for,
A land they loved forevermore.
Yet we trade our conscience for power and gold,
Selling tomorrow for riches untold.
Are you proud of the hands you stretch to beg?
When strength and wisdom lie in your legs?
Is this the dream they fought to see—
A people chained though claiming free?
How many hearts have we broken for gain?
How many brothers have we left in pain?
How many sisters have we cheated for wealth,
Forgetting the nation is part of ourselves?
For the love of country is the love of self,
Not measured by riches or worldly wealth.
It lives in kindness, truth, and care,
In lifting a brother from despair.
Ghana at sixty-nine stands tall,
Yet she listens to her children call.
Will we build, or will we destroy
The gift our fathers fought to enjoy?
Oh youth, arise with courage and pride,
Let honesty and justice be your guide.
For a nation’s future is not in the sky—
It lives in you, in me, in every cry.
Let Ghana not weep because of our ways,
Let her rejoice in brighter days.
For the blood they shed must not be in vain—
Let us build our motherland again.
*Happy 69th Independence, Ghana*. 🇬🇭
