Readers are Leaders
Some of the greatest men the world has ever known are voracious readers. Teddy Roosevelt was said to read a book every morning. Dr. Myles Munroe use to read 4 books a month. Bill Gates reads a book a week. Mark Cuban reads for 3 hours every day.
Now, I’m not suggesting that by simply reading books, you will achieve the types of results these men have achieved but, reading and acquiring new knowledge through the written word is something that seems to be a common thread line through most, if not all, successful people.
The Bible says that ‘for lack of knowledge my people perish’. Yes, knowledge is power. Though knowledge comes to us in many forms, it best comes in the pages of a book. However, we won’t know until we read what is written in the pages.
The importance of reading cannot be overemphasized to the teaching and learning process. Teachers always encourage their students to read. And students who read a lot excel in their academics. Unfortunately, most Ghanaian students either don’t like reading or are not encouraged to read. The root of this problem is that most Ghanaians (adults) have not cultivated the good habit of reading. Many Ghanaians read only when they are going to write tests, scheduled for an interview or going to make a presentation. Sad, isn't it?
We need to change this narrative by encouraging the younger generation to read.
At Imago, we believe readers are leaders and seek to promote a reading culture in every child, thereby unleashing their potential to become major contributors in their world. Each student has access to our 3000 book library, and is required to meet a weekly reading target.
