On Wednesday, July 19, students of LECIAD spent a great time exhibiting and enhancing their negotiation skills at the Annual Diplomatic Communication Simulation Exercise.

The exercise saw the 11 teams comprising the African Union Commission (AUC), the 8 official Regional Economic Communities (RECs) namely, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), East African Community (EAC), Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), and Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), and the two factions representing the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), made up of students in these roles.

After weeks of theoretical studies, the simulation exercise, supervised by the Diplomat-in-Residence, His Excellency Ambassador Kwabena Baah-Duodu, was meant to offer practical experience to the students on the negotiation processes diplomats engage in, when resolving conflicts and managing other issues of contention, using scenario of the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

Students of the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD) passed a great time with the Switzerland Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Simone Giger, at LECIAD during the Wednesdays Evening Seminar held on June 14, 2023. The seminar topic was "Swiss Neutrality In The Context of Increasing Global Polarization".

In a interactive session, H.E. Giger spoke extensively on Switzerland's promotion of respect for international law, peace, and security in the international system.

She also highlighted the extent to which Switzerland's neutrality in the international system has been tested on several front but remains resolute and defended its policy since inception.

On Africa, she pointed out that Switzerland has over the years worked largely in collaboration with some governments, eg Nigeria, to repatriate funds kept in swiss accounts by some former Heads of States.

On Wednesday, 1st March 2023, Ambassador Mrs. Agnes Aggrey-Orleans, a Retired Career Diplomat, took LECIAD students through "The Challenges Facing the African Diplomat in the 21st Century" during the LECIAD Seminar session.

Subject areas discussed were:
1. Qualities ambassadors need to possess.
2. The rigorous recruitment process ambassadors and career diplomat go through.
3. Relationship Ambassadors must build in their host countries.
4. The relationship of the embassy or ambassador with the mainstream media in the host country.
5. The use of social media in diplomacy.
