Accra High School (Accra) – 1923 happens to be the fifth (5th) oldest Senior High School in the whole Ghana 🇬🇭.

HISTORY

Accra High School was founded by the late Rev. James Thomas Roberts on 17 August 1923 as boys school. The school, was located at beach avenue in Aayalolo, a suburb of Accra, Ghana. The school celebrated its first anniversary in August 1924 with a church service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Accra and the sermon was delivered by the Anglican Bishop of Accra, the late Dr. John Aglionby. Thus, there was a tie between the school and the Church of England. In 1924, the school entered its first candidates for the college of preceptors as well as for the Cambridge University, the royal society of Arts and Pitman's Shorthand Examinations in the United Kingdom. In 1926, most of the pupils sat and passed the junior Cambridge Examination. In that year, Mr. Frank Roberts, the eldest son of Rev. Roberts, joined the staff after graduating in Bachelor of Arts from the United Kingdom. He worked hard to enhance the Academic and Disciplinary standard of the school in Accra. In 1927, the late J.O. Ansah Johnson became the first student to pass the Cambridge School Certificate Examination.

Onukpa Dr. Moses, undertook his research works in some schools in Ghana. He completed Accra High School in 2009.

Today, we seize the spotlight to celebrate our very own, Onukpa Anthony Woode. He is an actor, writer, director, model and a brand ambassador.

He plays several lead and prominent roles in Ghallywood and Nollywood and known for his versatile, controlled, emotional and powerful performances.

Amongst his movies are, Inspector Bediako, RENEWED, SAVANNAH, Lost In Marriage, Unbothered Heart, In Love With Your Man and many more.

He has several awards to his credit such, Best Actor-UMB Ghana Tetiary Awards (2018), Most Promising Actor- Golden Movie Awards (2021), Best Actor- Supreme Academy Awards (2022), Best Actor-Ghana Arts and Entertainment Awards (2023) and the Best Actor in a leading role-Ghana Movie Awards (2021).

REUNION & FUNERAL ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved teacher, Mr. Agbley.

His pre-burial service will be held today Friday, 1st May 2026 at Nima EP Church from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

On the same day, all old students from 2000–2025 are invited to our first-ever Meet & Greet (Homecoming) at the school premises, starting at 12:00 noon.

Dresscode: School cloth or branded Ahisco shirt. To purchase, please call Onukpa Oscar +233 20 201 1640

We encourage all alumni to come out in their numbers to support both events. We will gather at Mr. Agbley’s pre-burial service and then proceed together to the school for refreshments and a memorable high school reunion.

Let’s spread the word far and wide until the last Onukpai is reached. Let’s show up, stand together, and represent for our great school.
