12 Lessons from the book titled: 21 Harsh Realities of Life by Augustine Diawuo

Some realities of life are difficult to admit because they are bitter pills to swallow, but someone has to say it as they are because it is important to know the truth. You'll be much stronger and better once you admit these realities of life.

1. Not everyone will like you and that’s fine. You could be smart, funny, intelligent, and friendly; some people may dislike you. Don’t kill yourself, my dear, if someone doesn’t- because some people may also like and stand by you no matter what.

2. Good things don’t come easy. A big mistake others make is to compare their three months’ work with someone else ten years of hard work. In three or six months you cannot achieve meaningful results (subject to what you are working on)

3. Hard work alone is not enough for success. Over the years, we have been taught, “Just work hard”, and things will work out for you. This is a half-truth. Hard work is one of the most important ingredients to achieve success but it is dangerous to assume that it is the only requirement to success.

4. You cannot control everything. Some things in life are out of our control and there’s less or nothing you can do about that. The only thing you have control over is yourself. You can’t control what people think about you.

5. There is always someone better than you. Every time I go to the gym, I see someone and I think I want to be like him, just as probably someone out there looks at me and feels the same way. Yes, there will always be someone better than you no matter how smart you are and that’s ok because you are also better than someone too.

6. Bad things do happen to good people. Yes, bad things do happen to good people. Good parents raise kids who are rebels. Good people lose their jobs and find themselves facing foreclosure on their homes. Good people usually die early than bad people.

7. Nothing is free. No pain, no gain. No risk, no reward. No loyalty, no love. No trust, no friendship. No discipline, no results. Honestly, there is nothing free on this earth anymore…. even to listen attentively, you have to pay attention.

8. Some people want you to do well, but not better than them. This kind of person may appreciate and love you and might even be happy for your success, of course as long as your success doesn’t surpass their own,

9. Talent alone cannot make you successful. Your talent is useless without commitment, hard work, tenacity, and perseverance. Everyone has talent, but it takes hard work to make meaning of the very talent one has.

10. God cannot bless you if you are doing nothing. There are only two ways through which God can bless you financially. Either you are selling a product or rendering a service. The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and bless your hands' work. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. Deuteronomy 28:12

11. Success does not happen overnight. The truth is that success takes time. There is no such thing as an overnight success story because success comes from years of dedication and hard work.

12. Not all relationships lead to marriage. The bitter truth is that not every relationship you enter will lead to marriage; some would dissolve on the surface, some would last a while and end up, and some might even last a pretty long time and still won’t lead to marriage.
