WHERE HE IS

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. — JOHN 14:23

As Jesus goes on teaching in John chapter 14, He begins to talk about the Holy Spirit coming to us: Jesus and the Father, in the Person of the Holy Spirit, come to abide in us.

At present, Jesus literally — with His resurrected body — is seated at the right hand of the Father. Yet the Bible talks about “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” You see, the reason why Christ is in us is because the Holy Spirit is in us.

The Holy Spirit said through Paul, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (1 Cor. 3:16).

And in Second Corinthians 6:16 we read, “. . . for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

We’ve never plumbed the depths of what this is really saying: God is dwelling in us!

Therefore, if God is dwelling in us, then that is where God is going to speak to us — where He is — in our hearts, or our spirits. God communicates with us through our spirits. Our spirits pick things up from the Holy Spirit and then pass them on to our mind by an inward intuition, or inward witness.

Talk About Your Faith and What the Lord Has Done for You

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.—JAMES 5:15

I was a single man at the time I experienced this paralysis in my face. I had walked a young woman named Imogene to church. As I was walking her back home, several of the young people who were walking with us said, “Kenneth, did the Lord really heal you?”

I said, “He sure did.”

“Well, we noticed when we passed under the street light and you laughed, that one corner of your mouth ran all the way around to your ear. Do you feel any different?”

“Not that I can tell,” I said.

“What makes you think you’re healed?” they asked

I said, “I don’t think it. I know it.”

“We can see you’re not healed, and you admit you don’t feel any better. Aren’t you lying about it?”

I said to them, “No, I’m talking faith. Faith calleth those things that be not as though they were. Jesus said that when you pray, believe that you receive, and you shall have it. The next time you see me, you’ll admit it’s so yourself.” Now why did I say that? Because I knew that I had received it, and that my healing had to manifest.

Well, we got to Imogene’s house. She brought her mother into the living room, put me under a light, and said to her mother, “Look at Kenneth’s face.” I couldn’t keep from laughing, and my face only smiled on one side.

Imogene said, “Mama admits you don’t look any different. You admit you don’t feel any different. What makes you think the Lord healed you?”

I said, “I don’t think He did. I know He did. Faith calls those things that be not as though they were. According to the Word of God, I’m healed. The prayer of faith—the prayer that calls those things that be not as though they were—heals the sick.”

She said, “Well, Pastor didn’t pray the prayer of faith for you. If he had, you’d have it. And I can see you don’t have it.”

“Yes, he did,” I said. “And I’ve got my healing.”

Confession:
According to the Word, I’m healed. I talk about my faith and what the Lord has done for me. I call those things that be not as though they were. And then I see the manifestation.

LEARN TO LISTEN

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come . . . he will shew you things to come. — JOHN 16:13

A minister friend of mine had three serious automobile accidents in less than ten years. People were killed in these accidents. His wife was almost killed, and the minister himself was seriously injured. Both he and his wife were healed by the hand of God. When he heard me teaching along these lines of listening to your spirit, the inward witness, he said, “Brother Hagin, every one of those accidents could have been avoided if I had listened to that inward intuition.”

Yet people will argue, “I just don’t know why those accidents happened to a good Christian. He’s a preacher.”

Well, he had to learn to listen to his spirit just like you had to learn to listen to yours.

People want to blame God and say that God did these things. But as this preacher told me, “If I had listened to the inward intuition I had that something was about to happen, I would have waited and prayed. Instead, I said, ‘I’m busy. I don’t have time to pray.’”

Many times, if we had waited on God when we had that inward witness, God would have shown us things, and we could have avoided problems. But let’s not moan and groan about our past failures. Let’s take advantage of our present opportunities, and make sure that we follow our inward witness in the future. Let’s learn to develop our spirit — and learn to listen to it, and then obey it.

I am becoming spirit-conscious. I am developing my spirit. And I am listening to it!

Act in Faith

And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.—ROMANS 4:21

When the pastor said, “Amen,” I said in faith, “Thank God, it’s gone.” What does it mean to say something in faith? It means to call those things that be not as though they were. Many honest Christians are afraid to act because they don’t know what faith is.

Someone might ask, “Well, was the paralysis gone?”

“No, the right side of my face was still dead.”
“You were lying, then,” someone might respond. No! I was acting on the Word.

After the service, everyone rushed up to me. They said, “Did the Lord really heal you when Pastor laid his hands on you and anointed you with oil?”

I said, “He sure did.”

“Well, you don’t look any different. Do you feel any different?” they asked.
“Not that I can tell,” I said.

They said, “If you don’t look any different and you don’t feel any different, what makes you think the Lord has healed you?”
I said, “I don’t think He has; I know He has.”

What was I doing? I was acting in faith. I dare you to do it. We used to say in Texas, “I double-dog dare you!” I challenge you to act on the Word. Are you afraid that maybe God lied? No, He didn’t lie. You have to be convinced in your own spirit, though. It won’t work just out of your head. It won’t work trying to do what I did. I didn’t try it. I did it!

Confession:
I act in faith. No matter what I see with my eyes, no matter what I feel in my body, I act on the Word in faith. I believe that I receive when I pray.

But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. — 1 JOHN 2:20

Even as a newborn babe in Christ, still bedfast, I would know things by an inward witness.

For example, my mother said to me one day, “Son, I hate to bother you, but something is wrong with Dub.” Dub, my older brother, had gone to the Rio Grande Valley to look for work. (He was seventeen at the time.) Those were Depression days. Momma was a Christian, although not a Spirit-filled one, and she just had a witness of uneasiness and trouble in her spirit. “I don’t know what it is,” she said. “He may be in jail or something.”

“Momma,” I said, “I’ve known that for several days. But Dub’s not in jail. His physical life was in danger, but I’ve already prayed, and he’ll make it. Dub’s all right. His life will be spared.”
Three nights later, Dub came in. He hadn’t found work, so he had decided to ride the freight trains home. A lot of people were “riding the rails” in those days. However, a railroad detective found Dub, knocked him in the head, and threw him off a train going 50-60 miles per hour. Dub slid on his back across the coal cinders that had fallen alongside the tracks. It’s a wonder he didn’t break his back — and he would have, if we hadn’t known about it by an inward witness and prayed. We knew it because we were Christians.

Turn Your Faith Loose
. . God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.—ROMANS 4:17

When I was a Baptist minister, I had an interesting experience that will help you in your own faith. I went to bed one Sunday night after church feeling fine. But I woke up on Monday morning, and the right side of my face was paralyzed. It was numb. I could reach up there and pinch it without feeling a thing. I tried to wrinkle up my forehead, but the right side wouldn’t wrinkle. The right side of my mouth wouldn’t move, either.

I said to myself, I know what I’ll do. I’ll go down to the Full Gospel Tabernacle on Wednesday night and have the pastor anoint me with oil. He can lay hands on me and I’ll be healed.

So on Wednesday night, I went down to the Full Gospel Tabernacle. They weren’t having a healing service, but when the service was over, I stood up in the back and said, “Pastor, I want you to pray for my healing before we go.” Now when I opened my mouth to say that, the left side of my mouth sort of ran all the way around to my ear, but the right side of my mouth didn’t move!

The pastor told me to come down to the front and he would pray for me. I walked right down the aisle, stood in front of the pulpit, and he anointed me with oil on my forehead. He laid his hand on my head and prayed. I don’t remember one word he said. I didn’t pay any attention. I was waiting to hear him say, “Amen.” That’s when I turned my faith loose. In other words, that’s when I started calling those things that be not as though they were.

Confession:
I turn my faith loose. I call those things in my body that be not as though they were. I call myself well. I call myself healed. I speak to every part of my body to function as it was designed to function.

KNOW-SO SALVATION

No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. — 1 JOHN 4:12,13

I was born again as a teenager on the bed of sickness on April 22, 1933. Since that day, the thought has never occurred to me that I might not be saved.

Even as a young Christian, I would run into people who would say, “You’re not saved, because you don’t belong to our church.” Or those who would argue, “You’re not saved, because you haven’t been baptized our way.” And many others.

But none of it disturbed me. I laughed at it — because I had the inward witness. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit itself [Himself] beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” And I had the love: “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love . . .” (1 John 3:14).

I had the witness — and I had the love. That’s why I never doubted my salvation. I walked in love to the best of my ability, and I enjoyed the witness of God’s Spirit on the inside.

Confession:
I have the witness. The Spirit Himself bears witness with my spirit that I am the child of God. I have the love. I know that I have passed from death unto life. God dwells in me. His love is perfected in me. I know I dwell in Him, and He dwells in me, because He has given me of His Spirit.

The Prayer of Faith

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.—JAMES 5:15

Notice that this scripture says, “The prayer of faith will save the sick.” It’s not the anointing with oil that does it. It’s not the elders’ hands or even the elders. It’s the prayer of faith that does it. You can pray that prayer as well as anyone can.

Many people reason that if they don’t get healed after someone lays hands on them, anoints them with oil, and prays, then the person who ministered to them didn’t pray the prayer of faith. What is the prayer of faith?

Let’s substitute God’s definition of faith in Hebrews 11:1 for the word “faith” in this scripture. In other words, “The prayer of the evidence of things not seen will heal the sick.” Or we could substitute Romans 4:17 in there: “The prayer that calls those things that be not as though they were will heal the sick.” That’s what the prayer of faith is. It’s the prayer of the evidence of things not seen.

The prayer of faith doesn’t say, “Look and see if you’re healed. If you are, that’s how you’ll know if you prayed the prayer of faith.” No, the prayer of faith sees with the eye of faith and counts it done. Faith calls those things that be not as though they were.

I saw this as a Baptist boy, and I started preaching it as a Baptist boy. And I got results. Then the Full Gospel people came to town, held a revival, and built a church. I found out that they believed in divine healing, and I was thrilled about it. I had people to fellowship with around faith and divine healing.

Confession:
I can pray the prayer of faith and get results. I can pray the prayer of “the evidence of things not seen”—the prayer that calls those things that be not as though they were. I can call my body well and whole in Jesus’ Name.
