It's 4 am, and you can't sleep. You’re scrolling through your contact list, searching for someone who can help. Your business is struggling, and you've exhausted your savings trying to keep it afloat. Your partner lies next to you, unaware of the turmoil inside you. In desperation, you send messages asking for financial assistance, assuring it's a temporary cash flow issue. You place your phone under your pillow and try to sleep.
Tears fill your eyes the next morning as responses trickle in. Your cousin replies, "I just finished an expensive refurb and I am completely skint, sorry." Your brother ignores the message. Your sister writes, "Hey bro, I'm going through some tough times too. Just bought six new appliances, and I'm pretty stretched." Your best friend responds, "Hey bro, I was even going to ask you to send me some cash today."
You manage to crawl out of bed, dreading the day ahead. Your bank messages, "Hi, you have missed two payments on your loan. Click here to pay immediately or else." Your landlord texts, "Hey, I haven't received payment yet this month. What's going on with you? Call me ASAP."
Your wife adds to the stress, "The school just called. They haven't received the payment for Junior's school fees. Is everything okay?" "Everything is fine, Hun," you lie, "just waiting for some payments to hit my account later today. I'll sort it out. See you later." You head off to the office, feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders.
At your desk, you open your emails and the bad news continues. Your client writes, "Hey, I was expecting you to add on A, B, C, and D before I release your next payment. I won't be able to make the payment today until that gets done." "Oh no, but we had an agreement this was a monthly retainer," you reply in exasperation.
A new client emails, "Hey, we can't start the contract today as agreed. Something came up. Let's push the start date to next month." Another client messages, "Hi there, I paid you for three months' worth of work, but I actually only need one month of your service. Can you please return the remaining funds to my account before 12 noon?"
The stress and uncertainty begin to take a toll. As an entrepreneur, you’re constantly dealing with financial instability, client demands, and the pressure to succeed. These challenges can deeply affect mental health, leading to anxiety, depression, and even thoughts of su***de. The su***de rate among working-age men is alarmingly high, often due to the immense pressure to provide and succeed. Recognizing this, I’ve decided to start an entrepreneurial fund specifically for people like us.
This fund will offer grants to entrepreneurs facing hard times, allowing them to borrow and repay with interest (if they can afford it) when they’re back on their feet. No entrepreneur has to face these challenges alone. Together, we can support each other and build a community where we can thrive, even in the toughest times.
