🫂Lingo Quest held another intercultural event - the Language Fair where international students of IBSU from Kazakhstan🇰🇿, Turkey🇹🇷, Egypt🇪🇬, Fiji🇫🇯, and Kyrgyzstan🇰🇬 represented their diverse cultures and shared some of their linguistic peculiarities.

And not only - IBSU staff members and students had an opportunity to try out some of their delicacies and accessories at this real market-like event!🍬

Lingo Quest members decided to surprise foreign participant students with memorable traditional & Christmas-themed gifts - The Chichilaki & some Georgian sweets for their enthusiasm! 🎁

Believe it or not, we have a lot more in common with France, besides the love of wine! Let's say, the Sun King and Luarsab🤔

If we believe the sources, Louis XIV in the 18th century whined such phrase to his mistress Madam de Pompadour: "Après Moi, le déluge", which is preserved to this day and became one of the most common citations. Its literal meaning "After me, the flood" is beautifully represented by Luarsab (the main character from "Is that a Man?!" by Ilia Tchavtchavadze) which grasps the gist of the phrase and makes us perceive that " If I'm not alive, Let the world crumble... If you and I aren't here, why would we need the world?".😳
As we see, both of them lived unbelievably peacefully far away from the noisy rumbles of the world. These chillingly devastating phrases provoke us to think about the selfish nature of humans that doesn't care about others' fate and future. This narrow perspective outstretches from Georgia to French and indeed, also beyond it.🤓

夜漬け (Ichiya zuke) literally means “a one-night soak”; in other words, it is memorizing materials from scratch only the night before the exam. As you’d know, a myriad of lazy students, we all can relate, can’t be bothered to study during the exam preparation period, and choose to study the night before.🥱

Be honest, from one to ten, how much did you do "a one-night soak" for the first auditory exams? (Shh, don't be shy. We all know how to keep a secret)🫣

🎃 Finally the spookiest time of the year has come, happy halloween you guys!

☠️ Halloween has always been a holiday filled with mystery, magic and superstition. And of course, our favorite part of this day - Ghosts 👻

🔊 And speaking of which, would you like to know what word Ghosts fancy the most? “BOO”!

😳 "Boo" is supposed to be the sound a ghost makes. Sounds quite cute, if you ask us...

🧐 But where exactly does the word "Boo" come from?

🔎 According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “boo” comes from the Middle English “bo”, which was used in writing as early as the 1500s. It “was used as an interjection that was meant to either surprise or frighten” 😱

📜"Boo is a word used in the North of Scotland to frighten crying children" says Gilbert Crokatt in his book "Scotch Presbyterian Eloquence Display’d"

🧟 At some point along the way, “boo” ― or, more accurately, “bo” and boh” ― became attached to ghosts.
