Hello everyone, thank you for coming to our meeting this evening. If you are interested in becoming a member, Ive attached a link for the email sign up. Thanks!
So, is there just NOT an AMSA this semester? There have been zero announcements since everyone left the island last April. It would be very sad to see one of, what was, the largest and most active students organizations on campus just go away. Hopefully SGU AMSA will one day get back to the esteemed position it used to hold! ❤️ I know the Association can still do a lot of good!
AMSA amazing job today! As HFAD, I couldn’t be more proud of all of you than I am right now! Because of all of your efforts, we saw 68 patients today! That’s 68 lives we made just a little bit better, 68 people who are going to bed a little healthier then they woke up this morning! Amazing work one and all, thank you!
Congratulations to all the outstanding new E-Board members and thank you so much to this semester's leadership for all they've done for us. This has been a great semester. Can't wait to see what we do next! #GOAMSA!
Hi everyone, my name is T.J. La and I serve on the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Board of Trustees as Student Editor of The New Physician. I am also a medical student at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

This year at the 69th Annual AMSA Convention & Exposition in Washington, DC from March 7-10, we will be hosting for premed students:
--The 21st Annual Pre-Health Fair. Looking to make an important connection to an admissions committee of a medical school or a post-bac program? This is your chance! Talk to representatives, make connections, learn something valuable, and maybe find that perfect program!
--With close to 400 med students coming to this year’s convention, this is your chance to meet with them, network, and gain important insight on the admissions process and what to do as a premed student to get into medical school.
--The Art of Interviewing: The more interviews you go through, the easier they are to do. This session is a a low-stakes, safe environment for you to practice your interviewing skills. You’ll meet one-on-one with program advisors who will help you refine your message with real-time feedback. Sign-up on-site to reserve your spot.
--Distinguished guest speakers including Dr. Leana Wen, President of Planned Parenthood and former National AMSA President, Dr. Rishi Manchanda, author of The Upstream Doctors, and Dr. Dustyn Williams, Founder of OnlineMedEd.

The registration $50 discount code is TNPSE which will give the following discount for National AMSA members:
$199 through March 4th ($249 for non-members)

She has traveled to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Nepal, India and more practicing pediatrics and global health in these locations. Connor Berger...
You make us PROUD!!!

Stay safe. Keep doing the most good!!!

#sgu #sgusom #amsasgu #amsa #amsanational #covidfirstresponder #service #excellence

For the past six weeks, Connor Berger, a third-year medical student at SGU and a former Marine, has been volunteering with the Medical Reserve Corps to care for homeless people who have contracted COVID-19.

“What we have been finding on the ground is that there are a very high number of homeless people who are positive for the virus. The majority are asymptomatic but are obviously high-risk carriers due to close-quarter contact at most shelters,” Mr. Berger said, who first volunteered with the organization in New York City and now is working with them in New Haven, CT.

For those who are sick, “we have come up with a solution by utilizing a high school gymnasium right near Yale New Haven Hospital. Turning this gym into an isolation unit provides an area that will not get in the way of normal functions of the hospital, but where we can monitor and mitigate any symptoms that could arise. This area also limits the disease spread to the general population,” he said.

Mr. Berger, who aspires to be a neurosurgeon, assists with giving medication, checking patients’ vitals, and helping to make sure patients are comfortable as they recover from the virus. Currently the quarantine area has about 25 patients.

Mr. Berger served in the Marine Corps as a machine gunner and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2011, before heading to undergraduate college at the University of Miami. He said his experience in infantry field medical training while in the Marines and the medical knowledge he has so far gained during his first two years at SGU, inspired him during this unprecedented time.
“It is important to me to serve my community and my country during this crisis,” he said.

Mr. Berger is expected to graduate from SGU in 2022. 01/05/2020
