Good Morning, my name is Sharon Antoine. My daughters are students in the Junior and Senior Schools at Westmorland. I just wanted take a moment to thank the Senior Management Team and the Board of Directors for the phenomenal job they have done educating our children during this COVID 19 crisis. I have greatly appreciated the timeliness and quality of communication coming from both the SMT and the Board. It has been source of comfort for me during such a devastating time when we know so little about the virus and have had little control over much of our lives and livelihoods.
I am grateful that our children have had the opportunity to continue to learn and improve technologically during the pandemic. The ability to connect to their friends and teachers has been a lifesaver in our household. I am also very proud that in little Grenada, a developing country, our school was able to transform the traditional classroom into a virtual classroom in the space of just a few weeks.
In particular, I would like to thank Principal Ramcharan. To continue to successfully navigate and consolidate your team during this time as a new principal is indicative of your strong leadership qualities. Your leadership has brought forth an amazing synergy between the SMT and the Board. I would also like to thank Mrs. James (Aunty Kim). The continuity of your experience and knowledge has been the linchpin. I know all of you have sacrificed personally during this time in order to launch and sustain this new learning format. I know all you the best interests of the children at heart. I appreciate your energy…your creativity and I support the approach you are taking.
I would be remiss if I didn’t also thank our teachers at both the Senior and Junior schools. I know that all of you clear daily hurdles to teach our children in this new format. I just want you to know that you are appreciated. It has been tough going, but thanks to the commitment of all of us (parents, teachers, the Board and the SMT) to the continued development of our children, we are building a solid foundation we can continue to improve upon. I am looking forward to it!
LOOKING FOR A FUN ACTIVITY FOR YOU KIDS WHEN THEY ARE ON THEIR EASTER BREAK. THEN LOOK NO MORE. WEE CARE CHILD CARE WILL BE HAVING AN EASTER SWIM SPLASH, PARTNER WITH MT. CINNAMON RESORT AND GRENADA LEARN TO SWIM WEEK. REGISTER WHILE IT EARLY.
As the school year is winding down to a close, I just wanted to publicly make a statement of appreciation for the teachers and administration of Westmorland Junior School for their support and commitment to my children’s education and personal development.
At this point, between my two girls (Ashe, G6 and Sade G3), I have experienced the teaching styles all of the current Junior School teachers and some of the past teachers. I want to convey how happy I have been with my experience. Having been raised by two educators in the United States, I wasn’t sure what I could expect from the education system in a developing/third world country. My husband and I chose Westmorland Junior School almost by default. We were so relieved when we realized the extent of the experience and quality of teachers at Westmorland Junior. During my children’s time at Westmorland, the teachers and administration have gone above and beyond normal teaching requirements and created an environment which has been both supportive and nurturing for learning. I know that, in any country, teachers that consistently go above and beyond what is required of them are far and few between. Like many parents, I haven’t always agreed with their vision and there have been “bumps along the road”. But when I had issues, we sat down and resolved them. The teachers and the Supervisor have always been approachable and I always felt that they listened to me.
I believe that the main factors that set Westmorland Junior from other schools is the experience, commitment and quality of our teachers. Our teachers are in school energized and ready to teach every day. So Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Persaud, Mrs. Ruffin, Mr. Charles, Ms. Gittens, Ms. Cadet, Ms. Lambert, Mrs. Reuben, Mrs. Jones, Aunty Charmaine, Aunty Kim, Ms. Noel, Aunty Jovana, Aunty Judy, Aunty Earlyne…and of course our beloved Mrs. Hughes…THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! We could not have given our children the educational foundation we envisioned without you! Thank you for everything you have done for us!

Sharon Antoine
On the closing of the 2018 Intercol Games I would like to make mention of the hard work and dedication all the students who represented Westmorland, put in.

I am one immensely proud parent. They all performed so well. I could not believe how many of them made it to the finals of so many events. Congratulations to those who got medals and especially to those who beat their personal bests.

I do hope all the athletes are proud of their performance this year. As a past student and now a parent of the school, words can not express the pride I feel when watching these young athletes.

To our two very dedicated coaches, you are responsible for 3 schools: senior, junior and kindergarten; and I want to thank you for all your time and effort that you put in. You are spread so thin but yet you are able to motivate and focus these young adults into achieving the best they can do. Thank you.

Congratulations Westmorland Secondary School Intercol Team 2018 - ‘Keep Our Standards Ever High’
We cover children with the precious Blood of Jesus. Amen
Have a blessed day Westmorlanders!

Today we bid farewell to Mr. Joseph Browne, Visual Arts teacher from 1991- 2016. His art classes covered both Junior and Senior departments of the WS. He was passionate about painting. He engaged students at an early age painting sunsets and beach scenes among other subject matter as well as drawing still life. He never missed any Art competition and has won several over his tenure at the school. He was loved by all. He has contributed to the life of the school in many ways. As a loyal Mackintosh Teacher he took it upon himself to provide a house banner every year with his calligraphy skills. His culinary skill was displayed in many an oildown pot for Independence celebrations for his form. He was always an early bird at school, kind hearted and a man of few words with a sweet, gentle smile
Mr. Browne, our memories of you will live in our hearts forever. Goodbye, God speed our colleague, our friend. May you sleep in heavenly peace.

Somebody say ROAD RELAY! We were on the road today for another signature event for our athletes, the road relay. Three teams participated for each house, boys, girls and mixed. Our runners passed so fast we almost missed them!

For the boys teams, red took the lead, followed by green, then blue. For the girls teams blue called it, coming in with a huge lead and followed by yellow and then green. For the mixed, we saw blue secure another win, with red taking second and green at third.

Here are the final road relay points:

Mackintosh (Blue): 30
Brathwaite (Red): 24
Comissiong (Green): 20
DeGale (Yellow): 16

Lois W. Arthur helped to establish this school to help prepare West Indian and foreign students for an easier transition to American colleges. Westmorland has followed a grade rather than the British form system from its inception. During her time here, she served as headmistress of the Kindergarten Nursery section and trained and supervised the teaching staff, until 1969. Lois passed away on the 13th of this month. We remember her contributions to the school, and extend our deepest condolences to her family.

We will miss having them all with us, but we send them off with joyous spirits. They will always be part of the Westmorland family. 👩‍🎓 👨‍🎓
