Ella-Rose LaNoy Ashleigh Charles is currently a student of St. Joseph’s Convent, St. George’s, Grenada and the 2026 Junior Minister of Tourism.

As an active member of her school’s Debate Club, she has developed strong public speaking, critical thinking and advocacy skills. Passionate about youth empowerment, she believes that young people should be active voices in shaping the future of Caribbean tourism.

Charles has gained valuable firsthand experience with the Grenada Tourism Authority, deepening her understanding of how Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique are marketed to the world. She participated in the Grenada Hotel and Tourism Association’s Discover Hospitality Camp, completed an internship at Sandals Resorts, engaged with tourism professionals and gained exposure to tourism policies, destination planning and tourism product development through the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture.

A recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award 2023, Charles aspires to explore leadership, international relations and medicine while making a meaningful impact.

Today, July 15th, we celebrate the Feast Day of our foundress, Blessed , a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to unwavering faith and tireless service to the unfortunate.
Born into a turbulent era during the French Revolution, Anne Marie faced immense challenges from a young age. Yet, she consistently rose above the turmoil and personal difficulties, driven by a profound desire to make God known and loved, especially among the most marginalized.
Despite various obstacles, including political unrest, opposition, and even threats to her life, she persevered in her mission.

She founded the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny in 1807, an order dedicated to education, healthcare, and missionary work.
Blessed Anne Marie's vision knew no bounds. She fearlessly sent sisters to remote corners of the world, establishing schools, orphanages, and hospitals in places like Africa and South America. She is famously known as the "Liberator of the Slaves in the New World" for her groundbreaking work in French Guiana, where she established self-sustaining communities to prepare enslaved people for their freedom.
Her life exemplifies how one person, fueled by divine love and an indomitable spirit, can overcome extraordinary adversity to bring hope and dignity to countless lives. On this Feast Day, let us remember Blessed Anne Marie Javouhey's courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to serving those in greatest need. Her legacy continues to inspire us to look beyond our own circumstances and reach out to the less fortunate.

We are most grateful for her vision and relentless attitude, which resulted in us having the foundation and education we have today.
