👏 Today, our Class Ten students celebrated the completion of their GCSEs. They are the first class at the school to sit GCSEs, following the opening of the Upper School in September 2024.
🫶 Our Headteacher, Tracey Lucas, was absolutely thrilled. ‘We are so proud of every single student in Class Ten for completing their GCSEs. We have been so impressed with the way they have approached everything and prepared themselves, especially as these are the first exams they have taken. Many congratulations to all of our pioneers and the very best of luck for the future!’
🌍 Our Class Ten students are aged 15-16 years old. Many of them have been at York Steiner School since a very young age. Our students are assessed as they work, with in-depth portfolio work that allows all their strengths and interests to shine.
💫 Our students will gain a Level 2 Integrative Diploma (equivalent to 8-10 GCSEs) alongside additional GCSEs in Mathematics and English.

🌍Class 5 children are aged 10-11 years old. They recently undertook a botany homework project over half term after learning in class about germination, pollination, and how to identify different parts of a plant.
🌴They had the choice of researching and drawing either a tree, an edible plant, or a British wildflower. For edible plants, they could also write out a recipe and bring the food in too.
💫 The children learnt how to research, about referencing, and gained presentation skills and confidence after sharing their homework with the class.
💫 Steiner Waldorf education places a deep, immersive connection with nature at the heart of its curriculum through experiential learning.

🫶We would like to wish Annabel Gibb (our former Headteacher) the very best of luck in the Half Marathon Mighty Hike she is undertaking in June in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care.
💫 Annabel is dedicating this challenge to a friend who passed away from cancer in March and will also be walking in memory of our dear former colleague Vivienne Morpeth, who sadly passed away in May.
💫 Vivienne was initially a Handwork Teacher and then a Class Teacher for 8 years. She was an outstanding and inspirational teacher and colleague, giving so much to the school.
🙏Macmillan gave invaluable support to both.
ℹ️ You can find out more and support Annabel if you would like to, using the link below:

🙏Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, colleagues and friends of these wonderful people.

🪇 Music is a core pillar of the Steiner Waldorf curriculum and of York Steiner School. Music plays a key role at the school, and we love hearing our children sing daily.

Anyone familiar with York Steiner School will know that the Class 8 play is a rite of passage.
Having built their skills over the last eight years with annual plays, beginning with a short sock puppet play in Class One, the Class 8 of 2026 gave us their incredible rendition of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. From secret identities, ship wrecks, boxing gloves, yellow spandex - this one had it all!
Have you seen any of our Class 8 plays? Do you have a favourite?

🌎 Class 6 children are aged 11-12 years old. The class recently experienced the Steiner Medieval Games in Cambridge. This was the inaugural games hosted by Waldorf Cambridge School.
🏹 The children took part in medieval games, played medieval music and feasted on medieval foods.
💫 York Steiner School trips offer a fun opportunity to explore and understand somewhere new. They are experiential extensions of the curriculum. The hands-on experiences build confidence, independence, and deep peer connections while grounding learning in the natural world.
🫶 One parent volunteer said, ‘When people ask why I have chosen Steiner Waldorf education, I will say, for this!’
