We have welcomed our wonderful Grandparents in for a Valentines afternoon tea stay and play! There was cake, scones, sandwiches and veg sticks, with a special thanks to our wonderful cook Auntie Sue!

We have had lots of lovely activities, including card making, pink and red playdoughs, making amazing "stained glass hearts" and many more! โค๏ธ

"We're not scared!" ๐Ÿป

This week in Early Explorers we have been going on a bear hunt!

We have had an amazing time getting messy and diving into the story and some sensory play!

We read the story, we squelched through the mud in our gloop tray, we got blown away in a flour and cotton bud snowstorm, stumbled tripped our way through a deep forest and tiptoed in a dark, gloomy cave!

Everyone had lot of fun, got very messy and no one got scared! ๐ŸŒฒ ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ ๐Ÿป

There has been some fabulous 'in the moment' learning taking place in our Imaginative Investigators room this week. โœจ

Following a story last week and a conversation about being careful not to walk on icy ponds (as falling into freezing water is dangerous), one of our Imaginative Investigators asked "Well how do whales stay warm?"
A great question and one which the Imaginative Investigator staff sought to answer by carrying out the 'Blubber-glove experiment'!

On the investigation table the children firstly looked at the arctic and antarctic refions on a world map before exploring the small world set up, talking about icebergs, snow, and creatures that we find there.
We then created our own icy ocean by adding frozen icebergs to a bowl of cold water and prepared to test our 'Blubber-glove'.

The children took it in turns to put a control glove onto one hand and the 'blubber-glove' onto yhe otherand submerged their hands into the icy water at the same time, after guessing which hand would feel coldest in the water. It was fabulous to see their faces smile and tell us that their 'blubber-glove' hand was the warmest!

The activity was followed up with a conversation about how some animals have blubber to keep them warm.

This was a fantastic activity allowing the children to predict, test their ideas and then talk about their conclusions, as well as a wonderful example of how we follow the children's lines of enquiry here at Tiddlywinks, making their learning meaningful and child-led.

Great job everyone! ๐Ÿ‹ ๐Ÿงค ๐ŸŒŠ โ„๏ธ
