We were delighted to host another inspiring York Beethoven Project event at York Music Centre on Saturday.

Led by John Atkin, who also directs our Senior Concert Band, the day brought together 56 musicians, including young people from York Music Centre alongside current and former staff and players.

The informal performance welcomed the Lord Mayor of York and an audience ranging in age from just five weeks to 85 years!

We’re proud to continue this wonderful collaboration and look forward to welcoming the project back next year.

A young musician’s view from behind the scenes…

Minster Minstrels recently performed at the National Centre for Early Music, and one of our young musicians, Jide, captured the experience on film.

Directed, filmed and created by Jide, this is a wonderful example of student voice and a young person sharing the experience in his own way.

Congratulations to all of our fantastic Minster Minstrels on a wonderful performance today as part of the National Centre for Early Music’s York Early Music Festival.

We are incredibly proud of every one of our young musicians and of their Musical Director, Nina Kumin, whose dedication and inspiration have helped the ensemble thrive throughout the year.

The Minster Minstrels are one of York Music Centre’s flagship ensembles, delivered by York Music Education. Rehearsing every week during term time, today’s performance was the culmination of months of hard work, commitment and musical development.

We were also delighted to see bassoon player Isaac Ripley receive a special award from the Lord Mayor of York in recognition of his achievements. Congratulations, Isaac!

Thank you to the National Centre for Early Music for including the Minster Minstrels in this year’s York Early Music Festival and for providing such a wonderful opportunity for our young musicians to perform.

What a fantastic evening at ‘An Italian Spring’ concert at St Chads York.

A beautifully performed and thoughtfully curated concert, bringing together music, art and poetry in a really engaging way. Huge credit to everyone involved for such a polished and enjoyable event.

We’re especially grateful that the concert raised funds in support of York Music Centre—your generosity will make a real difference to young musicians across the city.

Thank you to all the performers, organisers, and supporters who made it such a special occasion.

What a wonderful Mother’s Day concert yesterday!

Our York Youth Orchestra joined forces with Kirkham Henry Youth Ballet for a truly special performance. The event sold out all 160 seats in advance, and after setting up the orchestra and ballet we were even able to squeeze in a few more audience members so no one missed the occasion.

The programme featured Rodrigo’s Guitar Concerto performed beautifully by our fantastic soloist Federico Pendenza, followed by a full 40 minute ballet performance of de Falla’s The Three Cornered Hat with dancers from Kirkham Henry Performing Arts.

A huge well done to all the young musicians, dancers, staff and volunteers who made this such a memorable musical collaboration.

A fantastic rehearsal yesterday with York Youth Orchestra and guest conductor El! 🎶 The music is seriously challenging, but the students are rising to it brilliantly and getting really stuck in as they prepare for their concert in March. Exciting things ahead!
