Just week 3 in Grade 6 and how stunning are these dancers?!

This week’s focus is legs, feet and floor pressure - exploring how we use the floor to create strong, beautifully connected movement. I put a little too much liquid rosin down which meant the floor was giving us a LOT more grip than planned… those feet really had to work for their transitions! 😂

So proud of the care, effort and artistry they’re already bringing to this grade. Beautiful work, dancers 💜

🌟 September 2026 Student of the Month - Olive! 🌟

Olive has only just joined our Dancefam, but she’s already a gorgeous addition to our Grade 2 Ballet class. 🩰

A naturally gifted dancer, but what’s really stood out is her lovely attitude towards learning. When I give Olive feedback, she says “thank you” - such a small thing, but it makes me smile every time!

Even better, it’s catching on! Her classmates have started thanking me for their feedback too, creating such a lovely, positive atmosphere where we can all learn and grow together. 🥰

Well done, Olive. Already making your mark in the most loveliest way! 💜

Our Grade 7s took a pause from syllabus work last year while they got through their GCSEs. Now they’re back… and already dancing like this! 💜

This was only their second week learning the classical dance, and one student had missed the first week. While I dealt with something from the previous class, the others taught her this section themselves.

Beautiful dancing and beautiful teamwork. I’m so proud of them! 🥹

Be young, be foolish, be happy… but DON’T DROP THE SPOT! 😂🟣🟡

Following on from the last post - this time Grade 1’s exploring weight placement through pliés in 1st and 2nd position and up into rises.

And what better way to find out if you’re leaning than balancing a floor spot on your head?! 👀😂

There were some VERY serious concentration faces, a few escaping spots and as always, smiles and fun!!! We love learning without taking ourselves too seriously. 🩰💜

This week in Grade 2 🩰

Across the school we’ve been exploring weight placement and how we transfer our weight when we move - adapted, of course, for each age and level.

For our Grade 2s, that’s included learning their new 4th position and understanding how we move through it when transferring the weight forwards and backwards.

And the floor spots have been earning their keep! 🙌 We’ve also used them for correct use of legs in sautés and rises among other things. Sometimes the visual cue makes such a difference when there are lots of things for little ballet brains and bodies to coordinate at once (plus I get to receive my blueberry pancakes / tacos / whatever else they like to make them in return!)

Lots of proper ballet technique, but plenty of smiles, silliness and apparently winking too! 😉 Because learning well doesn’t have to mean learning seriously all the time. 💜

How did practising battements glissés turn into juggling ballet shoes?! 😂

Our Grade 3s have been learning this new step, so we had a go at ballet football to practise the brushing action and energy needed through the toes… although some students clearly missed the “no hands” rule! 🤦‍♀️🤣

Never a dull moment! 💜

This week has been all about weight placement! 🩰

Our Vocational students have spent time exploring how their weight should remain correctly placed during forward and backward bends without counterbalancing or shifting away from the movement.

Peer teaching is a brilliant way for dancers to deepen their own understanding while developing their observation and communication skills. Here, they’re using a yoga block to check that the body stays correctly aligned throughout the movement.

Grade 3 met grand pliés for the first time… and apparently I was documenting their “torture” 😂 😇

They actually did brilliantly - new muscles activated, and dramatic reactions unlocked (probable sore legs the next day too).

Could you help us?

We are looking for 3 extra chaperones / runners for our show on Sunday 28th June, approximately from 4:00pm–9:15pm @ King’s Theatre, Queen Ethleburgas Colliegiate (close to York & Harrogate)

We’re looking for anyone who already holds a current Chaperone Licence, or someone with a current DBS who may be able to support us.

This could be a YRAD family member, a friend of the school, or someone with relevant experience supporting young people at events or performances. (Dance teacher / school teacher / chaperone from another organisation etc)

If you may be able to help, or know someone who could, please get in touch as soon as possible.

We will be so grateful for anyone who can help us on our final performance, as we may otherwise have to cancel this last one 😞

Email [email protected] with your offer of support alongside your DBS certification.

Thanks so much!!! 💜🙏🫶
