We are proud to mark Black History Month every October, but our commitment to celebrating Black excellence and confronting racism is not limited to one month - it is a year-round mission.

This year's theme, Honouring our communities, invites us to recognise the individuals whose everyday contributions shape, support and sustain Black life across the United Kingdom. At York St John, as a social justice university, we stand resolute in amplifying those voices and driving lasting change. Words alone are not enough - action is what builds justice.

Step into the Chapel and discover stories of Black faith, history and heritage. We are excited to share the launch of Behind The Research: Conversations in S*x, Gender and Feminist Research, a new podcast series led by Holly Murphy, Academic Associate and Doctoral researcher in the Social Sciences here at YSJ.

Each week, academics will share more about their work and journey into academia, including how they handle burnout, academic rejections, and celebrating their achievements. You'll also hear about their research on gender, s*x and feminist perspectives, explained in an accessible way.

FUNDAMENTALS
Primarily outdoor on artificial 3G
Disguised, less structured athletic development through fun games and activities
Year 4 - Year 6

ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT
Primarily indoor in S&C gym based
More structured physical development helping to inform appropriate exercise selection and technique
Year 7 - Year 11

By now, you should have received your invitations for our Graduation ceremonies in November. As we head towards our favourite time of the year, the excitement builds, and we look forward to celebrating with you, your family and friends. 🎓

We also understand that some of you may find attending your Graduation overwhelming, for a whole host of reasons.

So, we are holding a relaxed Graduation event designed for anyone who might feel more comfortable in a more relaxed setting. All Academic Schools are included in the celebrations, and the event is open to everyone eligible to attend Graduation in November 2026.

How it works:
You'll need to respond to your formal invite, which you should have received by email; this confirms your intention to attend this year's Graduation. 📩

You can then head over to our Relaxed Graduation webpage; from here, you can register your interest in our Relaxed Graduation event.

After that, you'll need to wait; we'll be in contact with you to arrange the details.
