The Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care team is here for all staff, students, prospective students, graduates and associates of our community.

We are here to support the University community at all times - in times of joy and in times of sadness. You are very welcome to join in all our events. We are fully inclusive and welcome staff and students; whatever their faith, race or sexuality. The chaplaincy office has an open door policy and you can call in at any time and a member of the team will be available to listen to you.

On Sunday, 24 May, Christians celebrated Pentecost!

Pentecost is a holy day in the Christian calendar, which celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit to the Disciples of Jesus, Mary, and other believers, whilst they prayed. The Holy Spirit manifested as a mighty rushing wind, with tongues of fire, and gave those gathered the ability to speak different languages, all praising God, in front of a large, multi-lingual crowd who found they could understand the disciples in their mother tongues. Over 3000 people converted and were baptised that day.

It’s described as the Birthday of the Church, and is observed in churches through special services, liturgies and music to mark the day.

We will meet at 7:00 am on Thursday the 14th of May at the York Minster South Door and climb up the Minster tower together. This event is free of charge!

PLEASE NOTE: Only the first 50 people to arrive will be able to climb the tower due to space restrictions.

Alison is inspirational and creative - come and be wowed by her at this year's Ebor Lecture on the 20th May, York Minster!

Join us for the next Ebor Lecture on 20 May with Professor Alison Phipps, UNESCO Chair in Refugee Integration at the University of Glasgow.

She will reflect on the theological and practical failures laid bare by recent genocidal assaults in Gaza, Sudan and Tigray, drawing on decades of work with refugees around the world.

This thought‑provoking talk will explore what it means to offer refuge in apocalyptic conditions and what heartbreak reveals about our betrayal of refugees.

Join us in-person (followed by a drinks reception) or online. This event is free to attend, pre-booked tickets are required. All are very welcome.
