Congratulations, Amos! 🎭🎓

Amos is celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results, achieving Grade 8s and 7s across subjects including Music, Drama, Design & Technology, Combined Sciences, English Literature, English Language and Maths.

Alongside his results, Amos has been awarded two Performing Arts Scholarships and selected for the National Youth Theatre — a fantastic achievement.

In his final speech as Head Boy, Amos encouraged younger pupils:

“This school is full of opportunities; don’t let them pass you by. Make the most of everything Cundall has to offer.”

And he certainly did. From every school production and countless concerts, to lead singer of Bangers and Thrash, solos at Ripon Cathedral, first-team sport, ski trips, sports tours, DofE and mountaineering challenges, Amos embraced everything Cundall had to offer with such positivity.

Perhaps most fittingly, he reflected on Speech Day:

“Success isn’t simply about jobs, grades or achievements; success is about the type of person you become. And if our time at Cundall has taught us anything, it is that character matters. And when i look around this year group, I genuinely believe that we have already exceeded. ”

A wonderful reflection on an incredible Cundall journey.

Huge congratulations to Ali, who achieved top grades of 8s and 9s across eight subjects, all while balancing the demands of elite-level sport and playing U16 England Hockey.

Ali’s journey began at Cundall in Reception, where his natural sporting talent was quickly identified. From an early age, he competed above his age group and showed an unwavering determination to improve. Selected at U14 to train with the England U16 Hockey squad, he went on to captain England in the opening matches of the Six Nations in Germany this year.

Despite his growing reputation, Ali remained remarkably humble, grounded and supportive of others. He was a role model at Cundall, embodying the school’s values of ambition, resilience, humility and commitment. Head of Boys’ Sport Mr Couttie consistently praised his calm temperament, maturity and willingness to lead by example.

Honoured in the National Hockey Awards this summer, England Hockey coach Harry Jones said: “Alistair’s attitude, coachability and dedication set him apart, and he possesses huge potential for continued success in the game.”

From Cundall’s hockey pitches to captaining England with a fantastic set of GCSE results, Ali’s journey demonstrates what can be achieved through talent, hard work and character. Now making an exciting move to Leeds Hockey Club, Ali is undoubtedly a rising star with a very bright future and we wish him the very best of luck.

Musician Molly achieved Grade 9s in Music, English Literature and Art, 8s in English Language, Physics and Maths, and 7s in Separate Sciences, Spanish and PE. Reflecting on her GCSEs, she said she felt well supported: “There’s a lot of extra revision help you can get.”

At Cundall, GCSE revision sessions are offered every Saturday during the final year, with pupils remaining in school in the lead-up to their exams. Head of Senior School Ian Swannell believes this additional individual attention and support helps every pupil reach their full potential.

An avid skier, Molly counts the school ski trips to Canada and France among her favourite memories and has represented Cundall at the National Schools Ski Championships. Her proudest moment was winning House Music, and she has performed her original compositions at numerous school events. Her wider Cundall journey has included the ISA National Hockey Finals in London, sports tours to Scotland, Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and a UKSA Sailing qualification in Cowes.

An impressive breadth of experiences alongside outstanding GCSE results. We wish Molly all the best for the future.

Huge congratulations to James, who achieved a straight set of ten Grade 9s at GCSE, including Further Maths, Separate Sciences and Computing, and is heading to Shrewsbury with an Academic Scholarship.

Having started at Cundall in Nursery, James leaves with exceptional academic results, but also having embraced the breadth of opportunities available with the confidence and ‘can-do’ attitude we seek to inspire in every pupil.

Determined to complete his Grade 8 LAMDA before his GCSEs, he undertook an intensive 12-week course and achieved Distinction. A familiar face on the Cundall stage, he has taken part in every school production and was also bass guitarist in the much-loved school rock band, 'Bangers and Thrash'.

Beyond the classroom, James has completed his Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, gained his UKSA Sailing qualification in Cowes and taken part in numerous mountaineering expeditions, sports tours and trips beyond the classroom.

He has been equally committed to sport, winning the Botham Cup for All-Round Achievement in Boys’ Sport, representing Cundall in competitive hockey and helping the team to bronze at the ISA National Finals last year.

Ten Grade 9s provide a fitting conclusion to an outstanding academic, sporting and creative Cundall journey and an exciting springboard for his next chapter at Shrewsbury.

Congratulations to Cundall Manor’s class of 2026, who have achieved very strong results in their GCSE exams. We are incredibly proud of all your achievements!

The overall percentage for pass grades has risen from last year’s 86% to 93% (compared to 67% nationally, where the pass rate has fallen). Cundall pupils averaged nine pass grades (9-4) each. Everyone passed Maths GCSE and Science, matching last year’s perfect record in English Language.

Cundall’s top performer was separate scientist James who has been at the school since nursery and placed himself in the top 0.1% in the country by achieving an extraordinary ten Grade 9s (that also included Further Maths and Computing). He will now move on to Shrewsbury School on an Academic Scholarship. Others such as Elsie, Mollie P, Rainia and Charlie K head to selective Sixth Forms such as Ripon Grammar and St Peter’s with excellent grades (44% of grades were 9-7)

"The range of achievement amongst this relatively small cohort is astonishing. Our school is not highly selective, but every result is on average at least one grade better than national projections in terms of added value. Each of our twenty-three leavers has made their mark on the school and most importantly they are a kind, supportive and resilient group. At Cundall, they have all had the space to grow and find themselves, the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and they have all found a champion on the staff to support them when they needed one. They are now well placed to take on the world as well qualified confident young adults".

With the Hockey World Cup underway, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the amazing hockey talent emerging from Cundall Manor.

⭐ Alistair | England U16
Ali was recently recognised in The Hockey Paper as one of the game’s rising talents and winner of the Hockey Writers’ Club 2025 Junior & Youth Awards. Currently representing England U16s, Alistair has captained his team on numerous occasions. England Hockey coach Harry Jones praised his “attitude, coachability and dedication”, highlighting his huge potential for continued success in the game.

Throughout his GCSE studies he has worked tirelessly to balance his academic committments with the demands of an elite level sport. He embodies the school's values of ambition, resilience, humility and committment and is an inspiration to younger pupils across the school.

⭐ Imogen | Sheffield TA
Head Girl Imogen was awarded Vice Captain of the Sheffield Talent Academy Cup Leadership Team and was named Player of the Tournament at the 2026 TA Cup this summer. Alongside her GCSEs, she has had an impressive first year with the TA squad, completing more than 100 + hours of training on the pitch!

We look forward to seeing what the next stage of her hockey journey brings.

⭐ Molly | Sheffield TA
Molly was also selected for the TA Cup Squad this season and has had a fantastic first year training with Sheffield Talent Academy. Earlier this year, she also passed her Level 1 Umpire training with Thirsk Hockey Club adding another dimension to her hockey development.

⭐ Harris | North East U13

While still in Year 6, Harris was selected to represent the North East at the U13 UK Regional Championships, competing against players two years above his age. Selection at this level is a fantastic achievement and Harris won every match he played at the championships. At club level with another Cundall pupil Jack, he reached the U12 National Finals representing City Of York Hockey Club

⭐ Isla | Durham Talent Academy
