We have had a couple of enquiries about group A Levels. Historically I have offered Music and Film Studies A Levels as 1-1 tuition, however, if there was enough interest, I would be happy to put a class together. This would be small group tuition on a Monday morning, starting this academic year for examination in Summer 2028. As with our GCSE courses, we would be partnered with Tutors and Exams where the examination would take place.

Our new term kicks off today and I cannot wait to welcome my new students onto our GCSE courses. However, I just wanted to highlight that I understand that group lessons may not be manageable for everyone and mention that I do offer 1-1 sessions in GCSE or A Level Music, Media Studies or Film Studies as well instrumental tuition at my home or online. These can be entirely bespoke and geared to meet your needs, so please do get in touch if this is something you are interested in.

Personalised Tuition

One of the main questions we get asked about Film Studies is what films you will actually study. As with most GCSE specifications, Eduqas have a number of set works you will need to study in preparation for your exams. These cover U.S. Mainstream and U.S. Independent movies as well as Global English Language and Foreign Language films, alongside and excellent array of British films. This means you will get to watch films you know as well as films you may not be familiar with.

However, you don't need to study every film for the exam. At Spark Creative Education, we look at snippets of all the set films as we go through the course as we learn about the key concepts of movie making and analysis. We will then, as a class, vote for which films you would like to cover in more depth in preparation for the exam. I have not had a single year group who have studied the exact same combination of films. It really is tailored to the group we have.

So unfortunately, I cannot tell you exactly which films you will be studying as I would love to hear your thoughts. But, to give you an idea, in your exam, you will be asked to answer questions on the following films (we only choose 1 film in each category, except for US Film, where we compare 2 films from the list below).

Did you know that in addition to my online GCSE courses and 1-1 tuition for KS3-A Level, I also offer instrumental tuition. Love her or hate her, most people have an opinion about Taylor Swift. She is a media juggernaut harnessing all facets of media to create a billion dollar brand. In the Media Studies GCSE, we hunt for codes, symbols and messages in Taylor Swift's video, 'The Man'. So if you are a Swiftie and love to search for easter eggs in her videos or find yourself hitting pause to dissect every logo on the screen, you are already a Media Studies student!

Music has been around forever, and it continues to evolve year on year, decade after decade, century after century.

The grandeur of Beethoven, the 'silence' of Cage, the genius of Queen and the billions streaming Beyonce and Bad Bunny, there is something for everyone.

But how does music work...?

GCSE Music covers all the facets from reading and writing to performing music. It allows us to understand not just the notes but the social and cultural contexts behind the phenomenons.

Instrumental grading can be fantastic, but GCSE Music is so much more than just playing an instrument. You will learn to understand the different ways of how music is written down, how to listen to a wide range of music and understand what goes on, and you will also take your performance to the next level playing the music you want to play.

Our weekly, small classes will help you understand your passion and give you the tools to take your music to the next stage. Lessons start in September, so don't miss out.

From music videos to magazines and TV shows to podcasts; we are literally surrounded by media. It is where we get our information, where we turn to for enjoyment and plays a significant role in how we communicate with each other. It persuades us to buy, shapes our worldview and influences our vote!

Media literacy is perhaps more important now than ever and a Media Studies GCSE will help you understand different media formats and teach you how information is conveyed. The best part is that you wont just be learning about media language, symbolism and representation (although we will cover all of this and more on the course to prepare you for your written exam), but you will be making your own media piece. So if you have ever wanted to direct a music video or design a magazine cover, this is the course for you.

Media Studies GCSE can be taken over one or two years. Our courses include 60 hours of small class tuition, 2x 1-1 tuition, a marked mock exam and the marking and moderation of the required coursework. The exam will need to be taken at a Tutors and Exams centre (the T&E fees are not included in the cost of the course).

From cinematography to set design, we will breakdown what went into the making of some of the world's most popular movies. And the best part; you get to create your own short film excerpt or screenplay. Our GCSE Film Studies course is hands on from day one, getting you to apply what you learn into practical film making. We give you everything you need to complete your coursework and prepare you for your exam.

I consider myself so lucky to be a small part of so many educational journeys. The work has been amazing and the personal growth has been exciting to see.
