From Festival makers to award winners: Gloucestershire YAC have had a very exciting summer! 🥳

Inspired by this year's Festival of Archaeology theme of Archaeology and Nature, young archaeologists created their own ‘Nature Through Time’ trail and recreated some tasty historic recipes. 🌿🥾🧑‍🍳

The club’s hard work was celebrated at their first ever awards event, receiving recognition from the Mayor of Gloucester! 👏

Gloucestershire YAC is based at Gloucester Cathedral and supported by Museum of Gloucester.

🎉Introducing 'Our Transcapes: Queering British Prehistory', our newest resource for YAC leaders!

Back in June a cohort of YAC leaders headed to Ecclesall Woods near Sheffield for a fascinating and inspiring training day hosted by creative facilitator S.K. Marley, exploring how q***ring prehistory can create a more inclusive history for everyone.

We’re delighted to share this fantastic resource pack to help YAC leaders explore prehistory through a q***r lens and have a go at some of the activities we took part in on the day.

📣 We're excited to announce our latest Dig It! competition!

Three lucky winners will be heading to Poulton, Cheshire on Saturday 29th August. Winners will be hosted by the friendly team at Poulton Research Project and will be investigating a fascinating site that dates back to the Iron Age! 🤩

Winners will also receive a satchel full of archaeological tools from Archaeology Trowels and Tools and can claim an £80 bursary made possible by the Marsh Charitable Trust to help cover the costs of travel, accommodation and/or subsistence.

In July CBA Youth Engagement staff teamed up with our Youth Advisory Board and English Heritage to run an exciting youth event at Tynemouth Priory and Castle! We were joined by 37 young people aged 8-16 who took part in activities related to the Festival of Archaeology 2026 theme of Archaeology and Nature. 🌊🌿

The activity comes from our free Archaeology and Nature resource pack, created by young people for young people. It was written by Amelia Hunter, an MA Cultural Heritage Management student at the University of York, during her placement with the Young Archaeologists’ Club.

At The Council for British Archaeology (YACs parent organisation), we're passionate about putting young people's voices at the heart of what we do. Through our Youth Advisory Board, we're working to break down barriers to participation and champion a truly youth-led approach to archaeology and heritage.

We’re now recruiting up to 10 new members to join a dynamic group of young people aged 18–25 from diverse backgrounds across the UK.
