Today is a sad day for the children in nursery as it is Coach Adams last day here. After 7 years being a part of the MiniKikks coaching team Adam has made the decision to step back from coaching as he begins his exciting new chapter focusing on his new role of teaching from September!

Whether it was welcoming a nervous nursery child to their first session, celebrating a new skill or simply sharing a high five ay the end of the session Adam has always bought enthusiasm, care and positivity to every Thursday session.

We would like to wish Adam huge amounts of luck in his new career and say a huge thank you for everything you have done to support the children, they will miss you so much! Also thank you for helping our new Minikikks coach feel so welcome in the nursery.

Vets

Our preschoolers have been really interested in animals and how to take care of them. The staff have et up a wonderful vets in the preschool room. There is an office with all the technology equipment, a waiting room for the children to sit with their pets, dressing up for the vets and lots of medical equipment so the children can help their pets to feel better. There is even prescription pads and pencils so that the children can write up their medication for the animals.

Vet dress-up and role play in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) serves as a powerful learning tool that directly supports all seven areas of development. By stepping into the shoes of a veterinarian, receptionist, or pet owner, children make sense of real-world experiences while building core academic, social, and emotional skills.

There are so many skills that can be learned through vet play. The children will nurture caring behaviours as children console 'sick' soft toys. It boosts self-esteem as children step into an authoritative mode. It helps to demystify medical tools for when children visit their own doctors or the dentist. Children will learn new language as they are treating their animals. 'Writing' prescriptions promotes purposeful mark-making and it integrates counting skills such as counting pills and weighing animals on the scales. Children will explore the basic biological needs of animals such as nutrition, hygiene and safe handling.

As we almost reach September, there are many changes in our nursery. 22 of our wonderful Rascals are leaving to start their school adventure (we will miss then so much 💚). We have lots of room changes meaning new environments and new staff and we also have new starters in the nursery to welcome into our little family.

For many children this means:
New rooms.
New resources.
New routines.
New learning opportunities.

But there is one thing I think we forget sometimes....

What does September feel like from a child's perspective?

They aren't thinking about learning goals and they aren't worrying about whether they are enjoying the activities. They are wondering:
💚Am I safe?
💚Can I trust these adults?
💚Will my grown up come back?
💚Do I belong here?

And that's why we believe belonging comes before learning.

All children learn differently and they need a positive, caring, warm carers to support them. They need time, relationships and reassurance (and so do their parents).

Settling in is about making a child feel known, valued and cared for. We all know as adults when we feel safe and secure we thrive.

Because when a child knows:
💚'The adults here know me'
💚'They understand me'
💚'They care about me'
💚'I belong here'

Something changes.

At Little Green Rascals we cannot wait to meet you children in September and welcome them warmly into the setting and to help them (and you) to feel super cared for 💚 For the transition children, all our staff are here to support your child and they cannot wait to be a part of your child's nursery journey!

Did you know that we have a community library in the nursery hallway, as well as the children's libraries we have outdoors. In the community library we have a number of books that may be helpful for a parent to borrow, these books are:

These books may be helpful for a parent to read to support your child, we also have other books downstairs that may be helpful to support your children including books about worries or moving houses. If you would like to have a look at one of these books please have a quick word with your key worker and they will take you to have a look 💚

🍓🍅🌻Vegetables 🍓🍅🌻x

The pre-school children have been growing fruits and vegetables in their garden. They have been helping staff members to water the plants and have been talking about how high the sunflowers have grown and how large the pumpkins have got!

✨Would you like to join our Minster Yard team as a deputy room leader, the applicant must be a level 3 qualified early years practitioner who enjoys helping to manage their team, doing lots of funny voices and be able to tell 'The Gruffalo' on repeat with many other daily roles.
