We are a bit quieter this week.

Natalie has just done three weeks solo parenting. Rosie has been looking after her nephew and currently has a training course with her school job and Emily is full on birthday celebrating with her now eight year old.

Despite being quiet here, it was a sell out session yesterday in Haxby 🤩

Emily will be in Acomb and Tockwith next week for a leaf session. Honestly, bouncing leaves on a parachute is one of those simple actions that brings great joy! Leaf week or no leaf week, we will be doing this in all sessions while there are leaves around.

Celebrating the small wins ✨

Free toys to play with (conkers), surviving solo parenting, managing to not waste fruit, running successful sessions. Yes some of these are maybe 'bigger' than others but we are celebrating them all!

We are ending the month feeling grateful and looking forward to what October brings.

All ages can enjoy this

✨ Little people LOVE collecting so go off on an Autumn stroll together with a bag or a basket and gather up any pretty treasures you can find. You also want to find the perfect stick!

✨ Your main aim now is to turn your stick into a beautiful Autumn mobile.

✨ We used string to attach our nature treasures but little people will find it easier to use pipe cleaners (or you do the tying part!)

✨ You could wind coloured wool round the stick to make it even more colourful

✨ There is no right or wrong way of doing this

With nine children between us we know what it is like, both the chronic sleep deprivation and the joy in finding wonder in the natural world...

We promise you, however tired you are, you always feel better for getting outside. Sometimes though, you need to be reminded, need the encouragement or even need the reason to. That's what we're here for!

It's like we've turned into squirrels this week with all the conkers we have collected 🤣

They are such a fabulous nature treasure

✅ Collect them (take a bag such as an old party bag or a basket with you!)
✅ Count them
✅ Sort them by size
✅ Roll them down a slide (why not try to get someone to catch them at the bottom!)
✅ Make shapes with them
✅ Add them to your mud kitchen

Here's what you do 👇🏾

What you need

✨ cardboard tubes - all sizes are good, it adds to the challenge!
✨ A large piece of card (we once set the card as an A frame and had a run on each side)
✨ Large paper tape (paper tape is better for the planet AND means you can take it off and use your tubes for something else)
✨ Lots of conkers (you could use really small windfall apples too)

There is no right or wrong way to make your conkers run. It's a chance to get creative, problem solve and have a great time together.

If you're anything like us, you will be even more enthusiastic than the kids when doing this activity!

Honestly, Autumn is THE BEST season for nature play. We have so much more to share 🧡

It wasn't till our kids started school and we realised we would no longer be playing with leaves that Evergreen Exploring was born. Throw away years worth of incredible sessions or try and share with others. We went for the latter.

Today was a new chapter, bringing the joy of nature play to older ones as I, Emily led my first after school session.

We never grow too old to pick up a stick and get creative though do we? Sometimes we just need the opportunity and the reason to get outside. So I am really excited to see where this pathway leads 💚

Also a big thank you from me to Rosie and Natalie, it may have been me delivering that session today but they both inputted into the session. Their creative minds are an inspiration and a joy to work with.

Low effort, high reward! 🤩

We were so excited to find conkers this week because there are SO MANY ways to play with them.

Here is one of our favourite activities

✨ Lay a long roll of paper* down a slope - if you have a slide, you could even use that (*old wallpaper/packing paper from a delivery)
✨ Task little people to gather big sticks to weigh down the paper
✨ Put blobs of different colours paint into an egg box
✨ Dip your conkers into the paint and roll down the paper
✨ Repeat to your heart's content
✨ Send your artwork to the Tate and make a fortune

This is even more fun with friends so why not tag or send this to someone you could enjoy the activity with!
