PQA TEAM UPDATE - please welcome to our Friday academy team, Hannah, who's joining us as an Academy Assistant!

Today was York Friday’s red carpet cinema screening at 🍿📽️

Thank you to all our students, friends and families who came along to walk the red carpet and enjoy watching 6 brilliant films on the big screen!

Here’s a little behind the scenes of how we gradually build our show in a week at our summer school. We run each track on repeat with each age group picking up momentum as we go, getting better every time 🤩

It still amazes us how quickly our cast pick up these show tunes!

Most students go home after a full day of summer school rehearsals and keep practising the songs into the evening.

That’s proper dedication and we love to see it 😍

🎭✨ NEW MUSICAL THEATRE PROJECT ✨🎭

This half term, our PQA York Friday students are going to be discovering just how much a prop can bring a performance to life!

Introducing PROP-stars ⭐️

Props are something we often see in Comedy & Drama, but they can be just as powerful in Musical Theatre — helping to tell a story, develop a character and add another whole layer to singing and choreography.

Over this project, our students will be learning how to:
🎤 Sing while working with props
💃 Incorporate props into choreography
🎭 Use props to develop character and storytelling
🤝 Work together as an ensemble
✨ Build confidence, coordination and stage awareness
🧠 Think on their feet when things don't quite go to plan!

They'll be working with props such as scarves, hats, umbrellas, trays and newspapers, exploring how something as simple as an everyday object can completely change the way a musical number looks and feels.

And, of course, they'll be putting everything they've learned together into a Musical Theatre number to share with family and friends at the end of the project.

Because sometimes, the smallest prop can make the biggest difference to telling a story. ⭐️

We can't wait to see what our Friday students create!

🎭 NEW COMEDY & DRAMA PROJECT 🎭

This half term, our PQA York Friday students are going to be creating something completely of their own…

Introducing SCRAPBOOK SCENES ✨

Rather than working from a script, our students will be learning how to devise their own original theatre — taking a theme that matters to them and turning their ideas into characters, scenes, movement and stories.

Over the project, they’ll explore:

🎭 Creating characters & stories
💬 Generating their own text
🤝 Working as an ensemble
🎬 Physical theatre & movement
✨ Improvisation & storytelling
🎤 Using their own voices and ideas

And the best bit? All of the fragments and scenes they create will come together to form an original piece of theatre, which they’ll share with an audience at the end of the project.

It’s a chance to be creative, experiment, take risks, listen to each other and discover just how much they can create when there isn’t a script telling them what to do.

We can’t wait to see what our Friday students come up with! 💛
