David Kato (1964โ2011) was a Ugandan LGBTQ+ activist, teacher, and human rights defender. As one of the first openly gay men in Uganda, he fought tirelessly against anti-LGBTQ+ laws and advocated for q***r rights in a country where being LGBTQ+ remains criminalized.
His global impact was felt through his work with organizations like Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG), and he was recognized internationally as a leader in the fight for justice.
