What an incredible first year! Having just returned from Ancient Olympia, Greece, we have been taking time to reflect on everything we have achieved this year with introducing the Economics Olympiad to the UK

We’re delighted that Time2Resources and Economics Today are working together to support the next generation of economists – and that Economics Today is recommended reading for Economics Olympiad UK.

For A Level Economics students, reading beyond the textbook can make a real difference. Economics Today helps students:

🔹 Deepen, broaden, apply and review their understanding of A Level economic theory
🔹 Build a bank of facts and real-world examples to strengthen evaluation in examinations
🔹 Challenge themselves beyond the specification with the new super-curriculum feature
🔹 Focus their revision with the March exam special, featuring topics likely to be particularly relevant to the summer examinations

And the feedback speaks for itself:

⭐ “Such high quality and packed with interesting articles.” — Ananyaa Gupta, Economics Olympiad UK National Champion and International Silver Medallist

⭐ “Economics doesn’t get more current than this.” — Head of Department

⭐ “Articles of direct relevance to summer exam questions.” — Colin Duncan, George Watson’s College

⭐ “Issues that engage older teenagers, modern presentation and data fully integrated as a model for students.” — Rachel Cole, St Edward’s, Cheltenham

🎓 Special offer for schools and colleges: receive £5 off your Economics Today subscription when ordering through the Economics Olympiad UK offer.

Economics is Everywhere! Economics of the World Cup 28/06/2026

⚽ Economics is everywhere… even in a cautious World Cup group game.

Our new blog looks at what Australia v Paraguay can teach us about tacit agreement, incentives, and why sometimes not attacking can be the most rational choice.

Sorry in advance for making football slightly more educational. 😅

Economics is Everywhere! Economics of the World Cup Economics is everywhere, what is the economics of the world cup? what are tacit agreements? Do they exist in football?

It was a privilege to attend the reception hosted by the Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, on Thursday to mark the official launch of Money: The Inside Story.
Following a warm welcome from Andrew Bailey, we were introduced to the book's authors, Rupal Patel and Jack Leslie. Their discussion was both insightful and refreshingly honest. Despite their experience as economists at the Bank of England, they reflected on how much they themselves had to learn and research while writing the book. Their enthusiasm for the subject—and for the writing process itself—was evident throughout.
The evening continued with an engaging Q&A hosted by Soumaya Keynes. Her thoughtful questions, combined with her infectious curiosity, created a lively conversation and gave Rupal and Jack the opportunity to share further insights from their research and writing journey.
It was also a pleasure to catch up afterwards with colleagues and friends from across the economics education community, including Sam McLoughlin and Gavin Simpson. Alongside discussions about current projects and priorities, it was a pleasure to exchange updates on the Economics Olympiad UK and reflect on its growing role in inspiring, engaging and challenging the next generation of economists. It was also wonderful to have the opportunity to speak with Rupal, Jack and Soumaya over canapés.
The train journey home provided the perfect opportunity to begin reading my gifted and signed copy. My initial impression is that this is an exceptionally accessible and engaging book, packed with fascinating facts, stories and insights that help demystify one of the most important forces shaping our lives.
I am already looking forward to completing it and writing a full review for the EBEA Teaching Business & Economics Journal.

Thank you to Carolina Escobar-Tello, PhD (she/her), Schools & Education Lead at the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL), for two fantastic online sessions last week exploring the Embedded Economy and the role of Doughnut Economics.

The sessions introduced Doughnut Economics, the work of DEAL, and provided an opportunity to "Zoom into the Economy" through the lens of the Embedded Economy model.

A huge thank you as well to all the teachers and students who joined us. The engagement was fantastic, and the discussions generated some truly thought-provoking responses.

It is always interesting to be challenged to think about the economy beyond markets alone and to explore the wider social and ecological systems that underpin our lives and communities.
