Lil Eadie picture upload 🦉 I always forget to take pictures as I’m usually busy flying her, cleaning her etc but thought I’d do an upload as I haven’t for a while 💕
Hi my names Eadie and I'm an 18 month old captive barn owl. My mum has a LANTRA Falconry award and has three years falconry experience.
Eadie Owl is a page set up to give an insight into the life of captive bred Eadie the barn owl and educate about the species and why protecting owls in the wild in their habitat is important! My mummy has decided that because I'm so friendly and so well behaved she will be taking me to privately booked functions such as parties. Full public liability insurance covering up to £5000,000 and fully DBS checked!!

Festive owl fun in the aviary today as owls too are under the same bird flu restrictions as all domestic birds at the moment to stay undercover to avoid risk of infection from wild birds. Seems it’s not just us humans in lockdown! Hopefully it’s not long until Eadie can fly around in the garden again 🤞🏼🦉

Eadies preferring the cooler weather for flying round the garden and being a nosey neighbour sitting on the bird feeder 🦉

Haven’t posted in quite a while, Eadie has laid three more eggs (they won’t hatch as no male owl) but she’ll sit on these a few weeks before getting bored of them 🦉She’s been out in the garden enjoying the sunshine and eyeing up the Guinea pigs 😝
Here’s a dose of Owl cuteness 🦉🥚

Eadies laid her first clutch of eggs this year the other week! They won’t hatch as there’s no male owl about but she usually spends a few weeks sat on the eggs before loosing interest. There’s 3 eggs in total 🦉

Happy 6th Birthday Eadie 🦉💕 6 years since I took a tiny two week old Eadie Home and hand reared her in the house for the next 12 weeks 🦉 She even came to collage with me, done lots of children’s parties, talks and shows and is the friendliest, most spoilt owl about 💕

How amazing is this!! Sent some of Eadie’s feathers over after her big malt to an amazingly talented artist who paints directly on them 🦉💕

As you can see, don’t only live in barns! This is in a beautiful old, hollow . Barn Owls look for somewhere that provides shelter from rain & wind and where they feel safe, usually at least 3 metres above ground level. The absolute minimum sized entrance hole that Barn Owls are able to use is 7 x 7 cm! They mainly roost or nest in nestboxes (in buildings, on trees, or on poles), in old barns, in hollow trees & cavities, or in converted buildings with built-in provision.
Barn Owls do not build a nest, so they need a level or concave surface on which to lay their eggs. In Britain, the vast majority of Barn Owl roost/nest sites used to be in agricultural buildings, however, due to changes in farming practices most of the traditional farm buildings that existed in the 1800s have long since gone. Most of those that exist today are in terminal decay or undergoing conversion to some other use.
