The Game Lilly helped to create… Dice Wars!!

Dice Wars - a fun game of strategy and mental arithmetic.

All you need is…
50 counters in two colour
2 counters in a third colour
5 dice in two colours
A 4 x 4 grid

How to play…
Both roll one dice to find who goes first - largest roll goes first.
Take it in turns to choose your territories.
Place two lots of: 5, 4, 3, 2 counters in a territory each.
Using the two other counters the first player chooses two territories to go against each other.
If the challenger wins the opponent loses all their counters, the challenger moves all but one of their counters into the territory won, and wins an extra counter they put to one side, they then get to go again.
If the challenger loses they lose all but one of their counters, they then place any counters won onto their chosen existing territories and play passes over.
Any territory can only have a maximum of five counters. You can’t challenge if you only have one counter, but you can challenge your opponent if they only have one counter.
If on your go you have no available territories that can make a challenge, you turn ends, place any counters won and play passes over.
Continue play til one player has won all the territories.

Games are a fantastic way to make maths enjoyable for learners. Dice-based games, in particular, can help younger children develop their subitising skills—the ability to recognise how many dots they see without having to count them. Games also give children opportunities to develop problem-solving skills, explore different strategies, and think mathematically in a fun and engaging way.
