79 years young and just getting started! 🚁😎

Joe has begun his training towards his PPL(G), shown here getting to grips with our school Cavalon.

He’s already got his eye on the end goal though — owning and flying the stunning Argon GTL, which is currently going through UK Section T approval.

Who says you have to slow down at 79? Joe certainly hasn’t got the memo! 😂👏

Hot, cold, iced, lemon… apparently the format doesn’t matter. If it says Yorkshire on the tin, your circuits are smoother, your landings improve and your navigation around York becomes suspiciously accurate. 😎

Alison’s landings on idle power — practising those all-important glide approaches 🚁👏

A great exercise in energy management, judgement and getting the approach just right without relying on power.

Then came the second landing… and somehow the instruments mysteriously disappeared 👀😂
No peeking, Alison — eyes outside, fly the picture and trust the feel of the gyroplane!

Today East Coast Gyrocopters had the pleasure of welcoming Sportability to Rufforth, along with four very lucky trial flighters — Simon, Chris, Caroline and Frank. 🚁

Each of them had the opportunity to take control of the Cavalon and experience gyroplane flying for themselves. Instructor Jim was genuinely impressed by just how quickly they got the feel for the aircraft and were able to operate the controls.

Sportability is all about taking the “dis” out of disability and focusing on ability, giving people the opportunity to experience sport and challenging activities that might otherwise seem out of reach — and today certainly proved the point.

A brilliant group, plenty of smiles and four very different but equally enjoyable flights. We hope this is the first of many Sportability visits to East Coast Gyrocopters. ❤️
