We host STEM Ambassadors & National Centre for Computing Education.

A pleasure to welcome the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, alongside Pat McFadden, Rachel Reeves, Steve Reed and the regional mayors to the National STEM Learning Centre this month to hold a cross-government meeting.

Alongside this, we had the opportunity to discuss our work supporting young people and teachers across the UK, and the role it plays in delivering the government’s wider ambitions on skills, opportunity and growth for communities to thrive.

At STEM Learning, we work closely with schools to understand the specific needs of different communities, ensuring support is shaped by what matters locally. We also partner with industry and volunteers to ensure the opportunities we create reflect the skills and career pathways that are most relevant to each region.

By connecting education, employers and local priorities, we help ensure that young people and teachers can access meaningful, high quality STEM opportunities wherever they are in the UK, aligned with the needs of communities and regional economies.

The DfE has published its Enrichment Framework for schools and colleges, setting out a clearer national approach to enrichment.

At its core is a focus on widening access, so all young people can benefit from a broad and balanced range of experiences across areas such as arts, sport, civic engagement and STEM. Schools already do a huge amount here, and the framework provides a clearer structure to support that work and improve consistency across the system, particularly in areas of high disadvantage where opportunities are most needed.

Experiences beyond the classroom are particularly important in STEM, helping young people build confidence, skills and a sense of belonging as active citizens in a world where STEM is part of everyday life. Strengthening STEM capital through clubs, projects and competitions, including CanSat, will be critical to engaging more young people and sparking an interest to help young people see STEM as a viable option for them.

We’ve valued the opportunity to engage with DfE as this has developed, particularly on the role of STEM, and will continue to support schools across the country to make the most of the opportunities already available.

We hope you all enjoyed our second STEM Inspiration Series episode!

In this session, we explored topics including what creates and sustains inequalities in STEM. In this clip, Defne reflects on how a research placement shaped her STEM journey far more than classroom study alone, by giving her the chance to experience STEM beyond the pressure of tests, memorisation and the curriculum.

From working in a real research environment to meeting people actively working in STEM, the experience gave her a new perspective on where STEM could take her.

A reminder that creating opportunities for young people to experience STEM early on can be just as important as studying the subject itself.

Today is , a day organised by our partners at WWT: The charity for Wetlands to celebrate the superpowers of this amazing wetland habitat. For 2026, World Saltmarsh Day is celebrating the amazing biodiversity of saltmarshes around the world.

We're excited to have partnered with the WWT: The charity for Wetlands to strengthen its engagement with schools by co-creating eight new resource sets aligned to curriculum statements for secondary science, maths, and geography.

Take a look at our photos from our workshop at WWT Steart Marshes where where we brought together teachers to help shape the content of these resource sets. Due to be published in Autumn, these new materials will showcase the vital work of WWT at Steart and celebrate the benefits of these amazing habitats.
