Dr Liam Herringshaw, palaeontologist and Earth scientist, based in Yorkshire.

I work as a palaeontologist with Hidden Horizons, based at The Fossil Shop in Scarborough. I am Director of the Yorkshire Fossil Festival, which I organize on behalf of Scarborough Museums Trust, with support from Yorkshire Coast BID and the Palaeontological Association. When I'm not doing these jobs, or any of the other fossiliam things listed above, I also I've posted a few videos on Vimeo that put the 'sili' into fossiliferous: https://vimeo.com/fossiliam

SPOILER: despite what this ridiculous online image suggests, you cannot find massive stone pumpkins on the Yorkshire Coast.

Don't get fooled by the nonsense world of p-AI-laeontology. Join a real fossil walk with real palaeontologists on the real Yorkshire Coast this summer.

Launching next week, the Scarborough South Cliff Dino Hunt!

Photos from Scarborough Museums and Galleries's post 20/05/2026

We have launched the South Cliff Dino Hunt, a brand-new dinosaur trail designed to help families explore some of Scarborough’s most remarkable and often overlooked prehistoric evidence.

The Dino Hunt is part of a children’s activity bag, available to purchase from the Rotunda Museum.

Created with help by Fossiliam (Dr Liam Herringshaw), highlighting dinosaur footprints left behind over 160 million years ago. These remarkable traces, preserved in the rocks, show that dinosaurs once walked where Scarborough stands today.

The walk is approximately 1 mile, follows established footpaths, and is suitable for families. Adults must supervise children at all times.
