The alphabet song is great, but when it comes to learning some of the letters, children often get in a muddle (especially with l, m, n, o, p).
We use letter cards, games and an alphabet arc to support children learning letter names (alongside the song of course!).

Reasoning in the ks1 & ks2 curriculum might sound tricky, but to put it simply; it's just giving a reason and an explanation!
At Chalk & Trees we support children to explore this concept by playing games and modelling with real life concepts.
We help children to 'prove it' using concrete objects they can move around, which helps them to remember and aids their explanation.

Mindful doodling
🧐During a brain break yesterday a student told me all about their day. When I'd asked them at the beginning of the session, they couldn't (or didn't want to/couldn't) remember anything, but then whilst doodling they told me all about a situation in a lesson they'd found challenging.
🧐Doodling and having brain breaks often give children the time and brain space to think or explore their thoughts and feelings more, and then this allows me to support children where-ever I can.
🧐After lots of useful brainstorming and discussion the student came up with a way they could approach the situation differently at school the following day and how they might ask for support at school.
A great outcome!
Brain breaks
During our tuition sessions we take lots of brain breaks.🧠
Each of our sessions includes a brain break at least every 10 minutes. This might include...
🧠Movement e.g. dancing or 'aerobics' style moves to music or whilst doing some counting
🧠Mindfulness activity e.g. breathing exercise or doodling
🧠A game
🧠A few jokes or would you rather questions e.g. Would you rather have sausages for fingers or sausages for toes?
🧠Playdough
