Which state schooler do you think deserves more recognition?

The 93% Club have today announced that, as part of their
campaign, they’re putting red heritage plaques on school gates across the UK.
State schools generally aren’t steeped in years of history or famous alumni. But having visible role models from your own community is so important - because you can’t be what you can’t see.

🔴 Every child in the UK deserves to know that someone from a community like theirs can make it - and they can too.

The York Student Union has recently ratified a “Restore Britain” society.
The 93% Club remains an inclusive space for all, regardless of background, and will continue to advocate for state-school students. We stand firmly against this society’s xenophobic values, and encourage you all to refrain from engaging with the society’s page.

One of the 93% Club York's aims is to champion our state-educated network on a university level and within our student community. 📢

Earlier this year, we attended our second Middle Ground Conversation with the Student Expert panel. Our Founder Caroline Manakit, former President Zak Clifton and current President Lewis Njie joined the panel to talk all things social mobility and engage in important discussions ranging from unequal access to opportunities to the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Here were some of our key takeaways👇

So we did it 🥳

Earlier last month, the 93% Club York won the Society of the Year award at University of York Students' Union (YUSU) Activities Awards!!!

Being recognised for the incredible work all the committee has done (both past and present) is a testament to their relentless efforts to further The 93% Foundation vision of connecting, up-skilling and empowering state-educated students. 🚀

Building a community that fosters growth and ambition hasn't been an easy task. From our founder Caroline's relentless determination and continued support, to all of the committee's past and present, the collective effort of sharing idea's, networking, organising events and expanding our network has been an incredible journey so far.

From the inception of the 93% Club at Bristol in 2016 by our Founder Sophie, to a network of over 50 universities championing a more level, inclusive playing field, the 93% Club has gone from strength to strength
and we're excited to be part of a wider charity, highlighting the divide between private and state-educated students and responding to this by creating for a more fairer, inclusive and limitless one.

However, our work is far from complete, we're only just getting started and we can't wait to see what the next year brings. 🙌
