Jan Hanson Childminding

Jan Hanson Childminding I am an Ofsted registered childminder based in Yeovil. I care for children aged 6 months to 11 years I live with my husband and 2 children aged 9 and 15.

I offer trustworthy childcare in a safe and homely environment. I live in a bungalow with a good sized child friendly garden with partly artificial grass which is ideal for all year round play. We also have a mud kitchen and messy play area with a vegetable and herb garden which the children absolutely love! I also have 2 grown up sons of 19 and 23. We also have 2 small dogs, one of which is a pup

py. I want every child to feel happy and secure and my family are friendly and welcoming. I have completed the Paediatric First Aid, Child Protection and childminding courses required by Ofsted and I have been DBS checked. I am Ofsted registered as a good childcare provider. I regularly visit toddler groups and local parks in the community. My hours of work are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. I work some of the school holidays.

Feeling very blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the country with so many places to visit and explore. We try to get out as much as possible to take advantage of what is close by. We regularly visit Ham Hill, Ninesprings, Lytes Cary, Montacute House, Sutton Bingham Resevoir, Kingston Maurward and various local parks. The children love going on adventures and walking with the dogs. I love allowing them to have the freedom to explore and exercise while developing their learning and understanding of the world.

As a childminder one of my main aims is to get children out into the local community. It is so vital, especially since the covid lockdowns to get them socialising again. I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the groups we regularly visit - Poppins at the Gateway community church, Seedlings at St Marks church, Little Lambs at Preston Road Family Church, Church Mice at Holy Trinity and Rhyme Time at the library. Most of these groups are run by volunteers who give up their time working hard behind the scenes preparing and packing away all the lovely resources and activities. The children really enjoy these groups which help to build invaluable social skills.

Amazing times at the allotment! We are so lucky to be able to have this wonderful outdoor space. The children have loved digging, planting, watering, weeding, bug hunting and having picnics. Even the youngest have had a great time exploring! We have planted seeds and looked at roots to learn how plants grow. We have had stories, singing time and crafts all out in the open air. Such an invaluable experience for the children to learn where our fruits and vegetables come from. We are really looking forward to harvesting what grows and even to having our own pumpkins for Halloween! We plan to use our vegetables to do some cooking activities with the children. Many thanks to my fellow childminder Louise White and her dad Dave for all their hard work in getting the allotment child friendly and ready for planting.

Feeling very appreciated 😊

The last few months we have been really busy. We have been out and about for walks in the countryside. We even went on a bear hunt in the woods on World Book Day! We had fun with our winter theme which included a Winter Olympics tray, dressing up and bashing frozen animals out of ice (always a favourite!) For Valentine’s Day we experimented with Rose petals, herbs and water to make perfume and made cakes for our loved ones. The children decorated pots which they planted flowers in to give for Mother’s Day. To celebrate St Patrick’s Day we had a green messy tray with dinosaurs and green play dough. We even did some Irish dancing. Easter activities included egg hunts and crafts including making Easter bonnets. We have continued visiting toddler groups which give the children the opportunity to socialise, gain independence and explore different environments.

We have had a very different year here due to Covid! Having remained open since last June and keeping in line with government guidelines, we are really looking forward to the end of lockdown restrictions so we can resume our visits to groups and outings in the community. Despite this strange time we have kept busy with lots of activities, local walks and outside play in the garden and mud kitchen. I am now working alongside another childminder and we have lots of future plans! We are working on a new exciting project for the children to give them further outside learning opportunities. We will update you soon but we aim to have it up and running in the summer. We hope to have spaces available in September for new starters. Here is a selection of some of our activities during lockdown.

We have been very busy over the past few months having lots of fun. We have continued to visit various toddler groups in the community which all the children enjoy. We also visited the library and went on trips to Kingston Maurward, Ham Hill and Borough Gardens in Dorchester. We meet up with other Childminders regularly and do activities at home too.

We have been really busy over the past few weeks with our Autumn topic. We harvested our own grown runner beans and sweetcorn. We did colourful printing using lots of fruit and vegetables making different patterns and marks. We went on harvest treasure hunts. For Halloween we had messy Play with pumpkins, made spooky shakers and had fun making witches brew with spaghetti worms, pasta and water and made toilet roll bats. We made firework prints and bonfires and for Remembrance Day we decorated poems with poppies made by printing with apples and corks.
