⏰ When Did You Last Refresh Your First Aid Skills?

First Aid certificates don't last forever and neither do the skills.

Research shows that without practice, First Aid knowledge and confidence can fade significantly within just 12 months of qualifying.

If your certificate is due for renewal, or if it has been a while since you last trained, now is the perfect time to get back up to date!

At Lightning Training Solutions we offer two refresher options to suit you:

πŸ”Ή FIRST AID AT WORK RE-QUALIFICATION COURSE - 2 Days - Β£120 + VAT per person

For qualified First Aiders whose FAW certificate is expiring. Keeps your qualification current and your skills sharp. Don't let your certificate lapse β€” requalifying is far simpler than starting from scratch!

πŸ”Ή ANNUAL REFRESHER FIRST AID AT WORK COURSE - Half Day - just Β£30 + VAT per person

A quick, affordable way to keep your knowledge and confidence topped up between full qualifications. Perfect for keeping your whole team current without taking them off the job for a full day.

Remember that under the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, employers have a legal duty to ensure adequate and appropriate First Aid cover is in place at all times. A lapsed certificate means a gap in your cover.

Don't get caught out! πŸ’ͺ https://www.lightningtrainingsolutions.co.uk/first-aid-at-work.html

It's a connection most people don't know about but in hot weather, particularly for older people, dehydration and stroke are more closely linked than you might think.

Our latest blog post covers:

πŸ”΄ The FAST test and what to do when every second counts
πŸ”΄ Why older people dehydrate faster than you think
πŸ”΄ First Aid steps for stroke, heat exhaustion and dehydration

🧠 Do You Know the FAST Test? It Could Save Someone's Life!

Every 5 minutes, someone in the UK has a stroke. That's over 100,000 people every single year.

A stroke is a medical emergency. And the faster someone receives treatment, the better their chance of survival and recovery. Every. Single. Minute. Counts.

The FAST test is the UK's nationally recognised way of identifying a stroke quickly. It takes seconds to learn and could save the life of someone you love.

πŸ”΄ F - FACE
Has their face fallen on one side? Is there drooping around the mouth or eye? Ask them to smile - is it uneven?

πŸ”΄ A - ARMS
Can they raise both arms and keep them up? Weakness or numbness in one arm is a key warning sign.

πŸ”΄ S - SPEECH
Is their speech slurred, garbled or hard to understand? Can they speak at all? Can they understand what you are saying?

πŸ”΄ T - TIME
If you see ANY of these signs - call 999 immediately. Tell them you suspect a stroke. Note the time symptoms started.

⚠️ DO NOT:
❌ Drive them to hospital yourself
❌ Call the GP first
❌ Wait to see if symptoms improve
❌ Assume it will pass - even if it seems to

If symptoms appear to improve, it may be a TIA which is a mini stroke and a serious warning that a full stroke could follow within hours. Keep the ambulance coming.

Knowing what to do in a medical emergency is one of the most valuable skills you will ever have. Our Emergency First Aid at Work course covers stroke response, CPR, and a wide range of life-saving skills in just one day, for just Β£70 + VAT.

🎡 Festival Season is well underway, but are you prepared?

Millions of us will head to festivals, outdoor concerts, sporting events and community gatherings this summer.

And while these events are all about fun, great music and making memories, they can also be the setting for serious medical emergencies. 🌟

πŸ”΄ THE REALITY OF OUTDOOR EVENTS

β€’ Heat exhaustion and heatstroke are common in large crowds on hot days
β€’ Alcohol and dehydration are a dangerous combination
β€’ Cardiac arrests can happen anywhere and to anyone
β€’ Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis can strike without warning
β€’ Crowds make it harder for ambulances to reach casualties quickly
β€’ The average festival site can be miles from the nearest hospital

πŸ’‘ WHAT TO DO IF SOMEONE COLLAPSES AT AN EVENT

1️⃣ Shout for help and send someone to find the medical team
2️⃣ Call 999 and give your precise location or a nearby landmark
3️⃣ Check for a response and normal breathing
4️⃣ If not breathing normally then start CPR immediately
5️⃣ Ask someone nearby to find an AED defibrillator
6️⃣ Keep going until help arrives

⚠️ In a busy festival environment YOU may be the first person to reach someone in need. The medical team may be minutes away. Those minutes matter enormously.

🏟️ WORKING AT AN EVENT THIS SUMMER?

If you are a steward, volunteer, event organiser or crew member then First Aid training is not just useful, it could be the difference between life and death for someone at your event.

Our Emergency First Aid at Work course gives you the skills and confidence to act quickly and correctly in exactly these situations and in just one day, for just Β£70 + VAT.

Don't head to your next event without the knowledge to help. πŸ’ͺ
