This morning, after the leavers service, Year 6 went to complete their fundraising cycle by packing some school bags. They won’t be with us in September when we do the whole school bag pack so they got in early.

Each child packed two bags and you can see their bag numbers below - you’ll be able to use these to track their bags and eventually find out who receives them!

Our total for our charity of the year fundraising for School in a Bag currently sits at £4757. Plus an additional £865.95 in Gift Aid. Remarkable!

During our house morning this week, the children were given the theme of trees to create something magical using a device.

The results were some magical artwork created using their painting skills in Jit, as well as some amazing animations using Scratch on the Chrome books. In addition to this some of the children chose to use the Microbits to create a flashing tree!

Anybody’s children as tired as Mrs Chesterton’s fur baby, Frank? 😴.

After a late night last night and all that walking today, your children should sleep well tonight!

15/07/2024

Here are just some of the last ones standing. They walked every lap there was to walk - the older/faster ones had already gone ahead!

A massive well done to each and every child - everyone pushed themselves and achieved the best they could and we couldn’t be more proud.

A big thank you to the Wilkes Family business (I’ll confirm the name when I get to the envelope!) for funding the sweets that kept us going and the donuts at the end (as well as a few school bags on top!). They certainly helped!

Well done everyone and thank you School in a Bag for having us!

Maple Class are enjoying the tunes whilst at the water stop of lap number 7. Amazing achievement!

We’re a little damp but we’re doing it! A little rain never hurt anyone 💧.
Over £3500 raised for School in a Bag and still rising! Thank you to Home Farm for hosting us every lap with water, music and sweets to keep us going.
Keep an eye for the Chilthorne Cow 🐮, it’s doing the rounds!

Please share - I cannot access ParentMail…

The weather isn’t looking good for tomorrow’s sponsored walk.

It will go ahead (because children in Africa walk to school regardless of the weather) but may be called off part way through if conditions are too bad. If this is the case, we will continue on Tuesday so children can achieve their distance.

Please make sure your children have a dry set of clothes in their bag to change in to when back to school if they are wet.

14/07/2024

We’ve done it! We’ve raised enough money to pack the 150 school bags which was our target!

You are all amazing - now all we have to do is walk, walk and walk some more!

Don’t forget to make sure children are wearing long trousers and sensible walking shoes tomorrow 🚶‍♀️ 🚶. Come rain or shine, we will walk - children across the world have no choice so neither do we! The forecast is looking warm and wet - light waterproofs are recommended if you have them!

Here’s our next (borrowed from Solihull) OPAL idea… pianos! 🎹

We have drums and Mr Kerrigan was really enjoying the recorders today 😳🤣. We think the children would love a piano…

If you know of anyone who would like to rehome one, let us know!

https://www.facebook.com/share/e5yp3iWWVK174sXD/?mibextid=WC7FNe

The Headmaster of School has bought seven upright pianos for a total outlay of £16. The pianos have been placed all around the school for children to play at breaktimes and lunchtimes.

Most of the pianos were offered to the school by local residents who no longer had use for them. In fact, four of the “new” pianos were totally free, two cost £1 each on eBay and the “luxury” one cost £13.99.

A school spokesperson said: “The pianos have been placed around the school, mainly outdoors - but under cover.”

Interestingly, the pianos have turned out to be especially popular with boys in Year 9 and girls in the Sixth Form.

Headmaster, Charles Fillingham, previously worked on the Eurostar train and brought the idea up to the from the pianos which are dotted around St Pancras Station in London.

This initiative formed part of Solihull School’s successful bid to be named as Independent School of the Year.

Mr Fillingham said: “Solihull School has some really talented pupil musicians and also some whose playing is less conventional. It is a delight to hear the pianos being played well and I am prepared to tolerate the crashing and banging that sometimes goes along with it.”

On the first day that the pianos were put into the school, a shy boy in Year 8 sat down to play a piece of classical music.

Afterwards, the other children gave him a round of applause.

Charles Fillingham added: “There are worse things that young people can do at lunchtime than mucking around on an old piano. Creativity, innovation, the arts and music are really important for a rounded education – at this price any school could afford to install pianos.”

This afternoon we held a tea party to thank all of our regular volunteers. Thank you to those that could make it and to you all for everything you do to support our small school.

A special thank you Mrs White for organising the tea party and the two choirs - staff and children! Also to the staff who baked for our volunteers 🍰.
