Mothers Stay & Play at our Preschool was a lovely and engaging session for everyone involved. We enjoyed a range of hands-on activities including cupcake decorating, where children explored creativity and fine motor skills. Playdough with loose parts encouraged imaginative play and problem-solving, while our floral water play with teacups provided a calming, sensory-rich experience.
It was wonderful to see families learning, playing, and creating together ❤️

🐷 Hide & Seek Pig – Messy Play Fun! 🌾🍫

Today we explored the story Hide and Seek Pig through some hands-on messy play! The children helped create a muddy pig pen using oats and cocoa powder to make the “mud,” and added straw to make a cosy little bed for the pigs.

The pigs hid in the mud and straw, and the children had great fun searching, digging, and discovering where they were hiding. It was a wonderful sensory activity that encouraged curiosity, imagination, and lots of laughter along the way!

Messy play like this helps children explore different textures, build language skills as we talk about the story, and develop their fine motor skills while scooping, mixing, and searching.

A wonderfully muddy, smile-filled activity! 🐷✨

Happy World Book Day! 📚✨

Today in Early Years we celebrate the magic that books bring into little lives. Stories help children explore new worlds, build their imagination, learn new words and develop a lifelong love of reading.

From sharing cosy story times on the carpet, to letting children retell their favourite tales through play, books are at the heart of early learning. Every page we read together helps spark curiosity, creativity and confidence.

Let’s keep inspiring our little learners to turn the page, ask questions and fall in love with stories. After all, today’s story time could inspire tomorrow’s dream. ❤️📖

🦢✨ This term’s story has been The Ugly Duckling, and today we brought it to life through art and kindness!

The children created their very own beautiful swans using finger painting, hand prints, and brushes 🎨🖐️ Each swan was unique — just like us!

Once their artwork was finished, we talked together about kind words we could use to describe our swans. The children chose different positive words and shared their ideas, which led to a lovely discussion about how important it is to use kind words with each other 💬

A wonderful activity full of creativity, confidence, and kindness—we’re so proud of them!

🐱📖 **Our Little Chefs at Work!** 🍓✂️

As part of this term’s topic, our preschool children have been busy creating their very own Cat’s Cookbook!
The children explored different pictures of food, carefully cutting and sticking them into their own cookbooks. We discussed what foods they enjoy and others they don't enjoy so much! 🐾🍕

This fun activity supported:
✨ Fine motor skill development
✨ Creativity and imagination
✨ Learning through hands-on, topic-linked play

The children were so proud of their finished cookbooks — we loved seeing their excitement and focus throughout the activity! 😻💛

We combined the stories Cave Baby and Elmer to look at patterns.

We explored "primitive" patterns like dots, stripes, and squiggles that the baby used to decorate cave walls and how Elmer and his friends decorated themselves for the elephant parade.

Each child took a blank elephant shape and designed their own unique pattern.

This promoted maths, fine motor skills, mark making and celebrating individuality. 🐘

🫧💜 Baby Wash Fun! 💜🫧

Today we explored sensory play with purple foam, a pump soap to build fine motor skills, and jugs for pouring and measuring. Little hands were busy pumping, pouring, and splashing while strengthening coordination and learning through play. So much fun (and a little messy)! 💦👶

The children enjoyed a hands-on sensory experience using our sand tray filled with loose parts. To make it even more exciting, we placed a light box underneath the sand, allowing the children to observe colour changes and flowing patterns as they played.

This activity supports:
🌈 sensory exploration
✋️ fine motor skill development
🧠 curiosity, creativity and problem-solving

As the children scooped, poured, and arranged the loose parts, they experimented with light, texture, and colour - turning simple play into meaningful learning.

Learning through play is always magical 🌟

Today the children explored paint in a fun and unusual way!

We stretched cling film around hula hoops to create a clear, upright surface, then let the children paint directly onto it! 🎨

This activity encouraged creativity, fine motor skills, and sensory exploration as the children used brushes and their hands to spread colours across the film. Painting on a vertical surface also helps develop shoulder strength and coordination - all while having lots of fun! 😄

The children loved seeing the colours mix and shine through the transparent surface. A simple set up, but a big hit! 🎨 🖌

We have been using our new pipettes to squeeze the rose petal water to fill up different containers. It was quite hard at first to manage to squeeze, fill and empty the pipettes but we all.managed it after practising!
