It’s filigree for the next few weeks with the evening course learners at Great Linford with Jess.
This lovely sketchbook and filigree workings were by Hilary a few terms ago showing how important it is to sketch out some ideas before embarking on fine filigree work.
Can’t wait to see what everyone makes!

When the solder flows perfectly!
A really good fitting join, components held firmly, grease free surfaces, the right amount of flux, solder positioned well, the torch flame held accurately and both components reaching the same temperature at the same time!

Just a few things to get right for soldering to be seamless 🤣

Some of the fabulous saw piercing pieces created this week by learners on my 7 week courses. Some are totally new to jewellery making and others have been coming for several years but it’s great to go over the fundamental skills sometimes.
Everyone shared little tricks for things like tightening the blades, ensuring they are the right way round, best lubricants, how to stop the blade catching, and how to start off.
Can’t wait to see the final pieces next week.

Fancy learning jewellery making at one of our two lovely workshops?
We have just added our next batch of 7 week courses starting the first week in November.
New learners will be gently guided through the basics to give them the skills to create 2-3 pieces of wearable jewellery. Returning learners will be encouraged to push their existing skills to the next level to create more complex pieces and develop their work.

New copper bowl workshop date added!
These workshops have been super popular so far and are both full so we’ve added in a session on the 9th November from 12.45-3.30pm £60
Learn how to mark out, cut, sink, raise, planish and polish a small shallow copper bowl.
Perfect for little trinkets or choose to add beautiful enamel colours to it on our copper enamelling day in December.
