School Blog (17/07/26) This week’s school blog includes student achievements, updates from across school, upcoming events and key safeguarding information.

🌱 Some of our Year 7 pupils enjoyed a hands-on gardening session yesterday, planting their own strawberries and herbs before harvesting peas, onions, carrots and beetroot. 🥕🫛

A big diolch to for awarding us a Food Production Grant, helping our pupils learn more about growing and harvesting their own food.

EXAM RESULTS DAYS - SUMMER 2026

GCE Results Day is Thursday 13th August.
Year 12 and Year 13 will be able to collect their results at school from 08.00am to 10.00am. Results will also be sent electronically direct to Students' Castell Alun email account after 10am.

GCSE Results Day is Thursday 20th August.
Year 11 will be able to collect their results at school from 8.00am to 10.00am. Results will also be sent electronically direct to Students' Castell Alun email account after 10am.
Year 10 results will be sent electronically direct to students' Castell Alun mail account by 9am but will not be available to collect from school.

A message from Welsh Water:

Dear parent/guardian,

With warm weather more likely over the next few months, Welsh Water has sent a reminder about the dangers of unauthorised swimming in reservoirs. Each year, hundreds of people enter the reservoirs – but unauthorised swimming in uncontrolled areas can and has been fatal, so is never allowed.

Reservoirs can be full of hidden dangers, including automatic machinery in the water that can operate at any time, and incredibly strong currents, that can pull under even the strongest swimmers. That’s why it’s best to only swim at the permitted reservoir sites, at designated times and locations.

The water also has freezing temperatures which can send swimmers into cold-water shock and there is a reduced chance of rescue in some areas due to the remote location of many reservoirs, often with little or no mobile reception.

If you are in difficulty in the water, ‘Float To Live’ – this means to relax and float on your back with your ears submerged in the water until the effects of cold water shock pass. You can them swim to safety or shout for help.

If you see someone else in difficulty in the water in a reservoir, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Fire Service, tell the person in the water to ‘Float To Live’ and throw them something that floats. Never go into the water to attempt a rescue yourself.

Unauthorised access to the water at reservoirs is extremely dangerous and never allowed.

Don't put yourself at risk from the hidden dangers - no one is invincible.

We were able to run much of our planned 'Sports Day' successfully this morning. In view of the number of events now completed and the weather forecast again for Monday, we have decided that the remainder of events will be run on Monday morning, from 9.15am, with only participants going out onto the school field.

Although this will be disappointing for some students, our first priority is the health and safety of all, and therefore we will run a normal school day, with participants in the final few events completing the programme as soon as they are able on Monday morning under the supervision of the PE team.

Due to the weather forecast and variety of outdoor events planned in school over the coming days, students will no longer be required to wear standard school uniform until the end of term for regular school days.

They may wear their normal PE kit or their uniform, but without a tie. However, please refer back to dress codes given in letters for specific school trips, which will run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week as certain trips will allow 'own-clothes'.
